Rear end noise
1996 Subaru impreza L:
I've replaced both wheel bearings. The brakes are all brand new. The noise starts around 15mph, gradually getting louder as speed increases. Does not go away if taken out of gear or clutch pushed in. Tires are ok, not new, but even after rotating, the sound is still there. It sounds just like a wheel bearing or bad brakes... obviously not them, as they have both been fixed. Maybe rear differential? Any suggestions?

Klapdout, I will try changing the fluid. I hope that works, i don't want to rebuild the rear end...
Jamie, Yes, the noise is based on speed, not gearing or throttle. I'll change the fluid and see what happens. Thanks. |

How often do the rear axles go bad? I don't know if you have to do this on scoobs, but on older cars, you had to balance the drive shaft sometimes. Just a thought.

Dude, seriously... wheel bearings, brakes, diff... all not naturally aspirated. I don't want to seem like a jerk, but there are reasons these forum divisions exist.

Dude, seriously...pushahh... you do seem like a jerk, and a very bored, uninformative jerk at that. My car is N/A. If the mods want to move it, they can. You are not a mod. Go away and try being supportive or productive... or maybe even both.
