I like these, but have a good stereo in my car already. I would be all over the mac otherwise. i just saw one on ebay and it has rca connects and everything. How cool is that for a factory radio?!?

Yes, it WAS an option. When I got my 2001, I saw the h6 model at the dealership and was drooling over the mac stuff inside. The BEST stock radio I know of...

I don't see rca's on this picture, maybe it is different from the ebay unit cause the ebay mac was from a jdm legacy?!? Maybe jdm required it? I know there are some little differnces between jdm and usdm, but I would've thought if one had rca's, well, they all would... hmmmmm...

Just sent you guys PM. Sorry, I don't have the pics hosted anywhere. If anyone is interested, just send me your email address and I can send you the pics, front and back.

Better yet, is anyone here kind enough to host them for me?

Thanks

Matthew

And I recieved them:

It's freakin' beautiful.

I'd call dibs, but I already have a 200 dollar Eclipse deck. This'll add a lot to anyone's car though, McIntosh is great stuff!

Will this thing plug into the stock wiring harness? I read an article, found here, that says it was part of a more complete system. If it's using stock wiring, then that'd be great. Otherwise it might be a nightmare to get working.

I am still very interested.

Plugged right into the factory harness on my L. And since this is a non-powered unit, the RCA plug for the pre-amp outs would have to be purchased from Subaru.

nothing better than a non-powered unit (assuming you already planned to put seperate amps in your car). all those little in-stereo amplifiers do it waste space and potentially degrade your sound quality...

I like my eclipse deck's internal amp. It's magnetically shielded so it doesn't get a lot of junked up signal, and I think it made a HUGE difference on the stock speakers alone.

How much power goes to the speakers without the external amp and how does the ampless system compare? Subaru VDCs have the Mcintosh and all have an amplifier under the passenger seat. '01 - '02s have a head unit with single CD and cassette, and the '03 - '04s have a six disc changer with no cassette. While the 14 pin plug is the same as non-Mcintosh cars, power to all seven speakers comes from the amp. Check the wiring diagrams.
For what it is worth, a US head will work and interchange with the JDM head in a JDM system.
