Ill try to remove mine again and check. There could be something that gets squeezed in between the dash and cluster.

Do the DEFI gauges come with interchangeable bezels/rings? It looks like they are all black on websites and I want silver to match the stock trim like the one in the OP's. Thanks for any info!

It looks like you can easily remove the black bezel/trim to expose the silver trim like the op's.

OCD, thanks for this write up. It was really useful when I installed my Defi boost gauge and SMY cluster last night. Getting the fender liners off was definitely interesting lol

What did you guys do with the fabric that fills the gap between the steering column and cluster? Did you transfer it to the SMY cluster?

^ this ^ As for those with the gap, make sure there isn't anything concluding the SMY. Wiggle wiggle wiggle. Otherwise, I'd be asking for a replacement / refund. That would drive me nuts know I have a gaping hole like that. But I'm OCD (ish) as well. Lololololol |

Question? If the steering wheel tilt is all the way up does it block the view of the gauges at all??

It does for me, not the right gauge but the left one, even with the wheel dropped a bit, the directional stalk still blocks the bottom quarter of my pressure gauge. I also had to telescope the wheel out a drop so it wouldn't hit the gauge when I turned on my high beams give me 15 minutes, I'll go take a picture of the different wheel positions for you.

Depending on what you have you could swap the gauges to see if it improves visibility. |

J.Biz Sorry for the ****ty cell pics, but it was faster. I took these pics at about eye level. Here is the wheel all the way up And here is the wheel tilted down pretty much to the point where the top of the wheel is right above the tach, you can see that the bottom corner of the pressure gauge is blocked just a drop. |

finally installed my cluster...but I forgot my downpipe only had one O2 bung..so I'l have to live with a hole for a little while
it was a pain in the ass to get it to snap in but it seems to fit fairly flush |

So, it seems there's no importance what so ever for the older cars like gc's, gf8's cars like that, but I'll post this any way. Since my car has a cable operated clutch I pulled the rubber plug where the clutch master cylinder would go and put a little hole in the plug and pulled the wire through and then pushed the plug back in. Right now you almost can't tell I have a larger wire going from the oil pressure sendor unit to inside the car.
I had bought a Defi racer series white LED oil pressure gauge for the build in my 96 obs wagon. I finally had the chance to wire this gauge up in my car. I went over the instructions in the first post and it looked pretty simple... So, I go out and by the 3 fuse taps that I would need. Get back and I need the larger fuse taps so back to the store.... I then get the right fuse taps wired up to the wires to the harness and then proceed to put the fuses where they belong. For the black wire or ground, I found a bolt on the underside of the dash crash beam thingy and grounded it there. I ran both wires up through this crack between the dash and rubber weather stripping next to the door and you can't tell it is even there. Probably going to mount the gauge and pod just at the left edge of the dash for now. I connected the battery and turn the key on and the gauge does it's sweep once, goes off then on and sits at zero like it should, so I guess I did it right for now... Going to start the car later today sometime to see how the gauge works with the engine on. The information strictly about the Defi racer series oil pressure gauge and what I needed was a big help. Yeah I don't have a newer wrx or sti, but the pictures really helped with the install. Can post pictures if anyone wants a few... Last edited by subi400; 04-11-2013 at 07:41 PM. |

I'm not sure if this was asked already, but if I'm doing this mod on an 06' with using the fuse taps, what fuse would be the substitute for #26 IG2? I'm guessing that is an ignition wire, but on an 06 there isn't a fuse for that in the cabin. Any suggestions??? Sorry kinda noobish when it comes to electrical. I also have three fuse taps already, but if I have to tap into an actual line that works too (just need the color code of the wire I need). Thanks guys

Not mine, but this is the same fuse diagram for 02-07 WRXs.
http://istargazer.ca/sti/fog_mod/sti-fuse-panel.jpg As you can see, I have the door lock and illumination fuses, but not the IG2. After some digging, I found this thread for gauge install http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1036365 But that is mounting it in the clock position. I'm just not sure where and if I can tap a wire (i.e. if the wire has an inline fuse, don't know if I can tap into it) under the dash that has the same ignition wire that he used. |

Been following this thread for a while for my wife's 2011. She hasn't pulled the trigger on gauges yet, so here's my version for the GD hatch, installed Maddad Ultra basic gauges:
Backlighting is a little bright, need to look into if a potentiometer works on these: And here's the wiring for anyone wondering how to set them up: Last edited by Bradrcr; 04-21-2013 at 02:29 PM. |

Does anyone remember what size T connector they used when they installed the gauge? I replaced mine when I originally installed it because the one that came with the Defi was too small for the line that goes to the top of the BPV

I didn't know the one that came with the Defi gauges is too small. Good thing I saw this because I'm installing mine tomorrow. |
