An H6 version would grab my interest for sure as long as they kept the weight down and the power in the right territory. 370Z/Genesis coupe competitor?

^ Agreed. (At least for the BRZ) The engine bay just isn't going to have the room.
Anyone else notice there isn't a hood scoop on the STI concept? I see nothing on the front that would indicate room for an charge-cooler, either. Sooo, without me speculating too much, any ideas of how they'll get STI worthy output? Definitely has the ability to duct the front brakes. Can't wait to get a look at the interior.... |

I am under the understanding that there will be a regular BRZ and a BRZ STI since they seem to be talking about 2 different variations already.

Anybody else wondering how low the torque is going to be?
If it is a 2.0l with 200 hp, chances are it will only have like 145lb-ft and since all weight figures are bogus it will likely be a few hundred lbs heavier than 2500 as someone else guessed closer to 2,800 or more. I can't wait for more details. \ |

TMIC is less prone to damage but heat soaks. It's just what performance factor is more heavily weighted than the other |

BRZ= Boxer something Zenith. That's all I can remember.
When's the last time ANY manufacturer has produced a diesel with a hood scoop? 200'F isn't as much of an issue on diesel as it is for gasoline. When is the last time a supercharged vehicle has had an intercooler? I really don't remember one. I could be wrong, though. Would also make sense to come out with a base engine BRZ and then an STI variant after demand wanes on the low hp version. Just hoping and speculating of course. |

There are just too many things that could have been done to make this vehicle look purely of Subaru origins and IMO Subaru has failed. The styling just isn't Subaru at all. I am all for the FT-86 and have been since the beginning although I was a little disappointed that Toyota wouldn't be providing a high strung 4 cylinder of its own to power the vehicle. I was hoping that Subaru would change its mind about limiting the vehicle to RWD, offer a turbo engine and market this vehicle as more of a WRX Coupe. If this vehicle starts around the same price as the Toyota/Scion versions it might sell but Subaru is really not catering to its established market by limiting the vehicle to RWD. And yes I know they are trying to reach a different audience...but the fact is, they don't even know if that audience exists. When sales figures are calculated I would bet Toyota will sell more vehicles...IMO Toyota has benefited from the development of these vehicles more than Subaru. I can already see a refresh in this cars future similar to the refreshes the GD received, although I like every version of the GD so maybe the Tribeca is a better comparison...there is just no way Subaru will leave the car with this front end for more than a couple of years.

Front end and headlights looks like an R34, which is great. It is also my only compliment. RWD and NA...not for me. I'll keep my 18% loss, small, heavy wheels, and lack of a shopping cart handle on the deck.
It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru, not a Toyota (or hybrid Scion for that matter). Subaru is perpetuating BS, like all the kids in the Minis saying they have a bimmer (or now also Royce haha), or all the kids in the GTis and A4s saying they have a Porshe, you'll start to see STi hats on civic owners...awesome... |

I'm pretty excited for this new car. I currently have a bugeye with a fair amount of work done to it, I've had it since '04. I have always loved Subie's for the awd rally prowess(though I don't rally mine, just autoX), but I see this as a great new beginning with Subaru. I've had the same grumblings as many have had with subaru's never changing power output from the STI's, and pulling out of WRC, but I see now that it had to be because of this crap recession thats been going on for a few years. I read somewhere that Subaru is one of very few car companies that has actually been making money while most have lost since the economic downturn. So I guess I can forgive Subaru for those things. I know they've been working on this chassis for quite a while, and am very excited to see another dynamic for the brand.
As for it not being turbo? I'm sure it will be shortly after it hits if not before. Its a new series of motor that needs real world miles before they get crazy with it. Subie's been turbo'ing cars for a good long while and with all that built up knowledge and with its proven effeciency these days, there really shouldn't be a question of whether this will happen or not. As for the WRX, the split from the economy impreza chassis can only, Only spell good things. Who would really kill off a car that Ken Block, Travis P. and several others worked hard to put into all of our dreams not so long ago? Personally, I believe it'll be redesigned into a small 2 door hatch(though I'd really rather it be a sedan) with a 1.6L something for Subie's return to WRC. WOO! haha. I'm gonna rant a little since I've put alot into this post, lol. This is in no way a direct personal attack on anyone who may have said something along these lines. Ok? ok The S2000 is dead, I'm sad to hear it. In other markets around the world, Subaru makes ALOT of different vehicles, they aren't all turbo and they aren't all awd. Get over it. I don't know if I'd place this car in the same class as a Miata, its wheelbase is over 10" longer. So I think it'll be interesting where it'll fall between the BS S2000 and CS miata's At first glance I'd say this would be a good match up to the Genesis coupe, but that f'er is HEAVY, dont' even get me started with the Z cars. BTW, i have a mini, and call it a bmw or not, it has a bmw designed multi-link rear suspension, and is flat out the most fun car to turn I've ever been in. My daily is an SM class Subie, that I've spent Thousands of dollars on in the handling department! My wife's '09 base mini rotates better completely stock with 175 width A/S tires. Thats not an opinion, thats coming from me.. and a pro str miata driver in my area, lol! End rant, have a good evening everybody! |

Subaru had to do something to cater to the high MPG crowd but I am saddened to see the "all awd, all the time" idea finally go out the window. I'm sure the car would have gobs of potential but I own a Subaru almost specifically for the AWD and the benefits it provides.

If Toyota put their own engine in it, it wouldn't have NEARLY as low COG. As for the AWD WRX coupe comment, you still just don't get what this car is about. |

I agree with your first comment. NO SUBARU in the body at all. Looks like the new Scion TC mixed with a another Kia......again...... might as well buy that Mazda 2...

I was just making a point that many rally cars still utilize a hood scoop. I believe Pastrana's car is a Rally America car but this was the car he used to climb Mt. Washington. It may have been different. |
