This is as far in the metal sleeve would go (wider opening towards control arm). At this point it's already binding so the sleeve is unable to spin.

There's a washer that would go in between but the gap is still quite large from being fully seated (little less than 1/2"). Looks like if the sleeve's inner diameter was slightly larger it'd eliminate the problem though.

I have seen this with a EURO 2002 STI that the pin was different than the USD / JDM cars ... but it was smaller ... the USDM pins are larger than those ones. Is there a burr, or a ding ' knick in the either part?

No dings, knicks, or burring on either of the bushing sleeves. I believe most of the aftermarket ALKs have sleeves that open up slightly wider than these do to fit more generically on 02-07 wrx and STI.

The smaller inner diameter where it tapers down to is ~20mm which looks to be the same for all models and is a good fit, but the wide end isn't large enough to slide all the way down the pin.

This is weird. I went and checked 20 pcs at random from our bin, and tried on 6 different pins I have her (no idea what they are from though) and they all worked ... I will check with TIC and someone will be back in touch with you.

I'm going to pull some sleeves off the shelf and random check them against a car with STi arms here to see what I find.

Here's an idea- try putting the sleeves in boiling water and put a layer of oil on the control arm. Maybe that should be enough to get it in?

Looking at things now and trying to figure out why you're having this problem. i've taken some measurements of a random sample of tubes and they are all pretty solid on repeatability.

I'm going to measure a pin from an STi arm tomorrow.

Don't lose faith I'll figure out what's going on.

Hey Clint, how's the testing on the pin for the STi arm?

Update: TIC did find the same issue on an 07 STi control arm so they're working on getting measurements to remachine the sleeves for fitment.

So, what's the status of installing these on the STI Aluminum control arms? Are we going to have to send them back?

WRX arms seem to be just fine.

the STi arms we know of and have installed here seem to be just fine.

I checked and checked all the arms from cars I have here and they were just fine EXCEPT for one. Now, as for the rhyme or reason as to why that one is having trouble I don't know.

What i will be doing is machining a number of tubes here to account for it so if anybody else runs into the problem I have some here.

I do not know if this is a difference with all 07's or even what the pattern is. There's this one case in the wild I know of, and then there's the one here that I literally had to go through all the cars we have in the shop here to find.

Gotcha. Was just hoping for a more definite answer before I potentially strand my car in the air. Ah, well, 'tis the nature of the game. I'll find out when I get around to installing these.

REAL easy to check.

Unbolt stock housing, slide back, and measure closest to the forward washer.

IF the pin is .9" stop there, and let me know.

If the pin is smaller you should be good to go.

FWIW, 128 crush tubes went out the door for rework this afternoon.
