Can someone assist with this question. I am going to the dealer to get my free oil change, and I want to make sure I get the right filter.

Test drove the BRZ today.

I asked about it when I got my tint and was quoted $600 + tax for the full package (entire bumper, headlights front third of hood, leading edges of fenders, mirrors, doors edges, handle recesses). Seems like overkill for this car though... I'm sure I'll be pissed when I get my first stone chips, but not $600 pissed.

Was the BRZ as fun as it looks?

I was originally going to use the Mobil1 because I can easily get it for a decent price at my local Wally World. After doing some reading though, it doesn't look to be well recommended because of poor used oil analyses. I thought of trying AMSoil, but it seems more expensive and less readily availble than other brands. Anyone have a better suggestion for a quality oil brand?

It served me well on my Element for going on 10 years of leaving it on and barely able to tell its there.
$600 is pricey, but we tend to hang onto our cars for 10+ years.

If you never get rock dings, or never drive freeway, or just keep your car a few years, its certainly NOT worth it. In the state of WA, they "sand" the roads with gravel, and if I take a car to hikes or skiing its likely gravel roads are included. So its worthwhile for me. Your mileage may vary....

A thin strip of black plastic stuck on the front seems REALLY pointless and ugly to me, so its different strokes for different folks.

There are several variations on the film. With minor differences/ tradeoffs. We got the Xpel stuff.

How much was the tint? Thats a frill we decided against for now, although might consider it in the future.

The BRZ was surprisingly good! The engine had a bunch of low end torque which made it very driveable. The seats are AWESOME, they have huge bolstering in the torso area. I am not used to sitting that low in a car, so it had a different feel to it. I don't feel this car is underpowered, however I myself could appreciate a turbocharger in addition to this peppy engine. Fun car to drive, but just not practical enough for me. The rear is is a joke, there is no legroom whatsoever in the back. I really mean there is NONE!

I really liked it, but I can't justify trading in my '08 STI.

It was different than the STI. My modded STI is a lot faster than the BRZ, but it truly had a different feel than my boost buggy. I really liked it alot.

Our local Subaru mechanic/"expert" recommends getting the official Subaru synthetic oil and using that. I believe its about the same price as Mobil 1.
Any thoughts?

It's not surprising that a Subaru mechanic recommended using official Subaru oil. I suppose it makes sense though seeing as Subaru (I'm guessing) had the oil specifically engineered to use in their engines. I'm sure it wouldn't be the worst option.

The tint was $250 at Jay's Tint Shop in Kirkland. They came highly recommended and I would echo that; they did it on Memorial Day on 2 hour's notice, and were fast, professional and friendly.

I still haven't completely ruled out the protection film, and your endorsement nudges the needle a bit. I'll have to sell my wife on it too, and she's already starting to mutter (quietly) about the money I've spent on the car lately

I have the 3M film on my 03 Element and its done a good job. Previous vehicle did NOT have it and all the leading edges were pocked pretty heavily in the same type driving.
I was thinking about doing the 3M. Until I was quoted 450 for just the bumper, 600 for bumper and sides. I could put on a brand new bumper for a little more than 450 (and I know this, if you have read my post a few pages back). Also, since I didn't do it immediately after purchase it wouldn't look as good.

What sucks is they are repaving a lot of strips of highway that I drive daily. Which means ground down pavement and lots of little rocks :/ oh well, bought it to drive it not stare at it.

Default Fog light housing

I got this straight from SOA.

Proper way of changing fog light/bulb/repair without having to remove the bumper.

Sorry about the crappy image. It was sent as a PDF so I snapped a shot of it from my iphone on the computer screen.

Thanks! I'll look into it. Sadly, funds are tight since I have a wedding to pay for in a year....

Is this the one you are referring to? Is this the best for your buck?

That's the one, but I ended up getting it in quarts. As for "best for your buck", I'm not sure what to tell you. M1 performs well and it's not absurdly expensive. I won't run off-brand oil or filters to save a few bucks.

Unless you are installing something akin to Fumoto oil drain valve, buy some crush washers as well; Subaru part number 803916010.

Without knowing specifications, I do not want to be the first with aftermarket oil filters; if they work well for you, let us know. LOL

Here is my oil change thread:

A lot of people would question Royal Purple being a serious brand name for anything. They went a number of years with rampant false advertising and eventually got smacked down by regulatory boards. They don't get much of their oil independently certified either, which can lead to other problem if you blow an engine or something. Even AMSOil gets most of their oil certified.

Also there is only one correct oil filter for the 2012 Impreza. People need to just buy that one instead of trying to save $4 with something else. The Forester might use the same part #, I wrote it down somewhere, I just don't have it on me. A lot of third parties appear to have just listed the previous year's filters are OK for the 2012 Impreza, however the springs are different this year. Oil filters have a valve and a spring in them to allow for oil bypass. Getting the wrong filter can mean too much or not enough oil goes through the bypass.
