How do you get the Subie badge off the grille??
I'd like to put the Subaru badge in the middle of the mesh grille on my ricer bumper, but I can't figure out how to remove it from the stock grille. I've seen various "custom" grille innovations here, so I'm pretty sure it can be done, but I don't know how. As far as I can tell, the emblem has a post sticking out of the back of it which goes through the grille, and then there's a lock washer of sorts on that post to hold the thing in place. I can't figure out how to get that washer off without breaking the mounting post, which would defeat the purpose of removing the thing.
I'm sure there's someone that knows how to do this - help a brothah out!! Thanks, Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2.5GT sedan PS - The alternative would be to get a 2.5GT badge (like the one on the trunk), which I'm pretty sure is just a stick-on badge, and put that offset to one side. If I were to do that, any suggestions on how to securely affix that badge to the grille mesh?

it's glued on. Pry it off, but don't just tear in on it, get all the edges loose, then it should come off easy enough.

I used a "jewelers" flathead screwdriver, but ended up cracking it a little bit on the underside. I think I was a little too impatient though.
it is just glued on, though. maybe slightly work every 90degree angle first before really giving a go at it. fibuz |

I think heating it up should help. It is just glued and you do just pry it off. I got mine off years ago, and I didn't even crack it.
Screwdriver or puddy knife and some patience... Jared |

I got the one off my impreza with a heat gun and some small flat heat screw drivers. Be careful not to marr the edges with the screwdriver.

I used a heat gun and an old credit card to get it off... just be careful with the heat gun as you can melt the grill pretty easily.

Yeah, I think those that said "glue" were really meaning to say double-sided tape. But double-sided tape takes longer to type and is a glue of sorts I suppose. Mine was taped and came off with a little prying. You can buy new tape at an auto store.
I pulled mine and sanded the black background off to paint it blue. Now the cars come with blue badges, so mine doesn't look as custom as it used to. You should be able to sand blast the back of the badge to get the silver out and the just repaint it gold. Then, sand off the gold that ISN'T in the stars and paint that your blue or black. It will look great if patience is used... |

Well, from the sounds of it I guess I misunderstood how the thing was held on. Looking at the back of the grille there's a plastic post sticking out which looks like it would be coming from the back of the emblem. I guess it's not. Ah well....
