The $/Mod ratio is only favorable in the beginning.

There's that point where nothing less than 1k (part or work) seems to provide nothing more than a 10hp gain.

On a street car, maybe the driveshaft is a item more suited for the final refinement portion of a build. When that last little bit counts. Again, maybe.

Track the car more often= Reason to purchase.

Here's a photo of my Anarchy Motive shift knob on my new 6 speed. It's a very heavy knob (close to 1.5lbs). I love it! And the grey color looks amazing.

I love my knob too (same type) but damn does it get cold in the winter. It needs a heater built in lol

Do you have the Anarchy Motive one? Which color? I had the satin black on the 5 Speed, but now I have the glossy Gray one. They both have a very thick powdercoat on them that does pretty well in the hot/cold. I think the Gray one does better though. Not sure why. Maybe the coating is thicker? Either one I was OK using at the temp extremes. It definitely does get cold when it is below 0F (as it was last week), but it's not too bad if you're not grabbing onto the knob (just quickly push it into gears).

3 Questions :

Hmm, you've had so many exhausts lol. I also have the feeling you're going to get another one soon too . Which one was your favorite?

Do you plan on making more power in the future or are you happy where the WRX sits now?

If you were to buy another new/used car to build ( while keeping the WRX ), what would it be?

Personally, I'd get an old 2.5RS ( I prefer older cars for some reason ) or STi / Bugeye.

You probably explaiend this before but I dont' want to surf through 183 threads to find the answer. Is there a reason why you bought a WRX instead of the STi? Just wondering since you just swap in a 6spd trans.

I like the GReddy SP Elite the best so far. Not sure if I'll get another one soon or not.
I'll probably go for more power eventually, but not firm plans yet.
If I were to do a project car it would probably be an 04-05 STI, but no plans for that.

I was just going to keep it stock. WRX with a tranny swap is still a lot cheaper than an STI.

Anarchy motive 5speed gunmetal
I just use gloves anyways. It was bad when it was -12 out blah. But I wouldn't go back to the stock knob

Looking forward to your write up. The only reason id ever get the STI would be the 6 speed lol.

Yeah, it was below 0F for the highs in MN last week. Lows were in that range. I never use gloves and I made it. The heavy knob feels so smooth compared to stock.

Write up's take a lot of time. Probably 8-12+ hrs for photos and text. I just do them a little bit here an there when I have free time. This is why I often wait to post about things until week(s) after I do them. But it seems like people would rather hear updates in real time, even if I don't have all the details.

That's my intention too. Keeping it stock. Hopefully I can stick to it unlike you haha. I assume you actually would have spent the money different already with all those crazy mods you have. How much did the 6sps transmission cost installe? I might be interested in the same thing down the road.

That's exactly why I gave up photography as a hobby, too much time in post.

I'm sure we all appreciate the effort you put into the write-ups. I've even started to see vendors use your work (mostly photos), which is pretty cool.

I think the hobby photos are the fun ones! Doing the paid shoots can get very tedious. Writing the text along with the photos take the majority of the time. Probably 80% or more. They just come together slow and steady.

What vendors are using my photos? Links? I wouldn't mind seeing that

That was from the middle of last year when I first broke my 5 speed and put in the PAR gears. That's ancient history now

I started seriously looking to buy a 6 speed around the first of the year. Things went pretty slow at first.

ben, the cf driveshaft i helped DSS make up for our cars 08+ with six speeds would fit the bill nicely. the install like described by some folks, is painless. literally less than five minutes with the car in the air or on stands. once you remove the driveshaft, simply stuff a spare yoke into the transmission to prevent excess fluid from draining. place the new yoke of the DSS shaft in there and line up with the rear diff.

one thing i didn't see anyone mention is the rear diff flange mating with the driveshaft. typically folks would swap to an r160 type flange (as you didn't go with the r180 rear diff) to adapt with the six speed but the DSS ones made for our six-speed swapped 08+ are "egged" as to allow fitment with a r160 or r180 securely fastened without having to change the differential flange.

all the benefit previously described are true and very obvious. while the weight savings are less of a delta than in previous MYs, it is still noticeable. the pluses to the install are dramatic and driving is much smoother. shifting, deceleration, even my car's ego got a nice little boost.

i have a thorough review of the cf DSS driveshaft we came up with in my build journal if you ever get serious about picking one up. i posted some before and afters and random excited banter you might be entertained by. let me know if you have any other questions about it via PM or email.

I've pulled the driveshaft out without draining the tranny before. That did not end well. Big, smelly mess. I was thinking I could angle the car, but your idea seems like it would work OK too. If the car is level doesn't some of the fluid still leak out when you're putting the spare one in?

Overall a DS swap is definitely easy to do. The ovaled out holes seem like they'd work as long as everything stays centered/balanced. The thing that's holding me back is cost. I really have no interest in spending $1000 to make my car a little smoother. I'd much rather put that money into another 100WHP

Why doesn't anyone make a cheap aluminum or steel one? The current aluminum ones are large and have fitment issues, but they're hollow. It seems like a solid aluminum or steel shaft would fit fine, have all the reduced slop benefits, and cost much, much less than the CF one. The only thing missing is losing 10lbs of rotational mass, but if it saves me $500+ I don't really care.

BTW, I looked for your post on the driveshaft, but I gave up. Is there any way other than using the horrible search on that site? It's pretty much useless.

I'm with you on this one. I am all for performance enhancing mods but that price/gain ratio is a little off in my opinion. That doesn't mean that it might not be priced right from a manufacturing standpoint...it would just be really hard for me to spend that kind of money on a driveshaft vs. other mods.

A solid aluminum shaft would still have to be very large to compare to a slightly larger diameter aluminum tube, as stiffness and diameter are related by the 4th power, while shear stress and diameter are related by the 3rd power, so it's just takes a slightly bigger tube to out-do a solid bar.

But anyway, I'll probably try it out and sell it if it doesn't deliver, just like you did with those dozen or so catbacks! I'm obsessed with driver feedback though, and when my car starts bucking back and forth because of the DS, it really irks me.

And again, who knows what you really even stand to gain having already installed solid engine and trans mounts.
