Ahhh I can see it now... the back window shall be painted with " Bill Bryan and Subaru wont fix this oil burning car".
Funny you would mention the Ford dealer. IIRC, the 4 cyl ecotech engine has now had three recalls. Not sure about the first two, but the last one had to do with the possibility of an engine fire. The Focus, Fusion, and Escape, and maybe others are affected. Not that that justifies what you're going through. Just saying that you can find troubles in other places too.

True, but some have greater potential for problems than others.

For example, I would expect the brands that are vertically higher on this graphic to have less potential for problems than brands that are lower on this graphic:

^^ Absolutely! Which is the big reason I didn't go with the 2013 Jetta TDI, that has problems but they are CATASTROPHIC problems. On TDIClub all I can read about is people worried about the HPFP. I tend to be more of a worrier, so trading the Impreza which has been reliable and has a better track record thus far for the TDI probably wouldn't be good for my nerves. Thanks for your help BTW on that decision - perhaps if they redesign the HPFP I'll give it a shot.

It looks like the new sensors did the trick, it appears to have FIXED the oil problem on my car, the camshaft sensors where installed on Wednesday, it is now Saturday and I took a trip from NY to MA about 109 miles straight mostly doing 80 MPH and no light, no flicker of the low level oil light, so far so good, I will monitor the oil level in the mornings before I turn the car on @ 5:00AM before I go to work and see if there is any change. Will keep you posted!

No problem. And now that the temps are around freezing, there are tons of TDI owners worrying about their intercoolers in addition to the HPFP. What a cluster.

Man, I had no idea Subbies were so high on that list. Although I hear resale values on most Soobies are pretty dang good unless you have that oil burning problem. If not...it's pretty solid.

One dealership around here was quoting a very nice price to rebuy our 2007 base Impreza...we declined because it's hardly ever had any major problems. As tempting as it was to possibly get the 2009 or 10 I simply felt there was not even road experience with them. My car did not have seat creaking or much noise coming from anywhere. The first thing to break was the CD player, but the radio is still working, an easy fix.

Well being that the local subaru dealers lick donkey balls for quarters, the local Ford dealer would be a more appealing option. But the comment was more tongue in cheek.
If anyones gonna touch the thing, it'll be me or the local brittish guy who does amazing work on all kinds of cars.
At least other companies DO recalls, soa seems to believe that not fixing the problems for folks will somehow keep that sales number they're all so jazzed about climbing.

Awesome, man!
From the pics you posted, I can see how that would have been a problem.
I only had a little bit of oil residue that was on the right side intake cam position sensor cover. I got it cleaned off and will now be watching it regularly.
And dont stop checking the dipstick at least every 1000mi.
I'm glad someones gotten something done!

Funny you should mention Subaru not fixing design issues in their cars. I just made the same comment about VW last Friday:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.p...39&postcount=8

Trust me, the issues those of you with oil consumption are dealing with are nothing compared to what VW TDI owners are dealing with right now. You need to add an extra $41 of oil/year to your car that a non-consuming Impreza owner doesn't need to add. The expense and inconvenience is quite small.

On the other hand, TDI owners are getting stranded on the side of the road with thousands of dollars worth of damage sitting under their hoods. I'm guessing these TDI owners would gladly accept your oil consumption over the crap they're dealing with. You car gets you from Point A to Point B quite reliably. TDI owners never know when their cars are going to s**t the bed and leave them stranded.

Well its a good thing there are plenty of tdi threads out there.
And its not about the cost of oil. Its the loss of confidence in a $20,000+ purchase and some pretty dodgy tactics by subaru in not dealing with these issues.

Fwiw- I'd never buy a tdi. It was never on my list of cars to look at. At all. too expensive for the car and too expensive for the diesel. The only tdi I'd ever consider woukd be a first generation new beetle for my girlfriend to commute to Orlando in.

did oil change at 1800 miles. seems like I got a little over 5 qts out (tough to estimate since one of my waste containers was an empty washer fluid container). Put a little over 5 qts in. I'm about 1/4" over the dot as far as I can tell. *crossing fingers*
