I've heard a lot of people are liking the Red line shockproof line of gear oils just be sure to run the superlight, other than that any redline or amsoil synthetic is good also try this link

Actually most people are running the Redline 75w90NS in the trans and either shockproff or 75W90 in the rear diff.

Im using the 75w90ns in the trans myself, very smooth and quiet no crunchiness, or gridning at all.

i would reccomend it.

My MT fluid is at the "L" point too. Are you going to top it off or change it wholesale, and where do you drain the MT fluid?

I'm running Redline 75w90 NS too. Its nice. Suprside how much junk was on the magnet on the drain plug. I'm using Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 in the rear diff. I got it as a trade.

No problems - but haven't been able to evaluate gas mileage as I've had my foot in it...

The drain plug is underneath the transmission. 1/2 inch drive on it.

Fubaru - There is a big gold bolt on the bottom of the transmission case. You can't miss it. It's like 19 or 21 mm. Big sum'bitch.

Was running Redline 75W90NS in the trans, but I hated it. IMO, it doesn't spin the synchros fast enough, so I ground into gear often.

So what fluid did you decide to use? I'm low on transmission fluid, and I'm having the grinding grears problem as well.

8,

Umm, not to tell you how to drive, but I've been told by several people at Subaru Dealers not to shift into 1st unless stopped. 2nd should be able to carry you through.

He never said specificallly he shifted from 2nd (or any gear for that matter) to first, he just said downshift. Anyhoo, just do what I do, double clutch on the downshift, it makes things s lot smoother...

Actually, I didn't even say downshift. I just shifted too fast for it. *shrug*

What fluid did I use? Uhhh... well it depends on how my trans. gets fixed.... (still broken)
