Default Brat Jump Seats in Baja

So... I am driving to Eugene on Monday to pick up a pair of what I think to be Gen 1 Brat jump seats. No framework for the bed included (that is fine as I will have to fab my own setup that works with the factory tie downs in the bed) I know it won't be road legal, but it will be a heck of a neat feature to have for West Coast Subaru Show

I will post pictures once I get them in there. (they will honestly just be in there with a bungee cord for the show, but who knows I may get a frame built...)

The only mod left to be done to a Baja. It has to be cool especially us folks know why our bed space once upon a time was a car seat.

I have a prototype frame in my head that will work.... once I get everything in the bed I hope my vision works. I am thinking of building a base frame for the seats similar to a brat factory one, and maybe having a tab come up each side that sits in the small indent on each fender (where a 2x4 could notch in normally) that will help locate the seats in place. Then have some kind of eye bolt that goes from the tie down points in the bed to the seat frame to actually hold it there.

Going the custom fab route. Pretty much going to take a stock one, make a replica of it with a slightly lower height and add tabs for it so bolts can attach between the frame and the stock tie down points in the Baja. Coming down to the wire for the Subaru Show though.... I am scheduled to pick it up Thursday. I get to borrow a factory one today for test fit / mockup purposes.... I may ask to borrow it for the whole week as a backup plan. Pictures to come when its one of the frames is mounted.

Any sketches where exactly it is getting bolted too?

We went a fairly simple route. We inserted an eyebolt through a plug in the end of the rear tube, and put a turnbuckle between that eyebolt and a hook and it its a straight shot from the rear of the frame to the tie downs. The front side of the seat (rear of vehicle) is not tied down at all. But since I am not using it on the road it works for me.

Thank you to Inferno Fabrications for building this (better than) replica frame for me so quickly! https://www.facebook.com/infernofab

Looks good, and I'll bet it would be a wild ride in those off road :-)

Especially since I did not bother with seat belts or headrests.

You need to find some volunteers for a pics. How about having them back there while you're on the road.👍

I have been thinking of doing this but you can not find the seats here in WI. I do have the OEM seats from my Forester though....

I was going to say check e-bay for the seats, but wow, NO results at all!! I found some headrests on there, but nothing else.

Perhaps a good substitute would be some low back bucket seats from a boat or something?? Or even some vintage fiberglass chairs (just the seat not the frames)
