Default If not, a list of part numbers ...

for the most popular brands. Also, are they the same as other older Subaru models' brake pads?

RS => WRX front brake upgrade involves only a disc and bracket swap. Since the calipers remain the same, I believe they use the same pads.

Default all 2pots front caliper are the same

from 97 GT to WRX and I would assume they use the same pads.

This is not true for 02RS. The 02RS has a different caliper. Don't know if the pad is the same though.

98-01 RS caliper is the same as WRX caliper.

Something to think about..

even if the pads are interchangable, doesn't make them "the same" it's compound that counts and they may have completely different compounds.

Of course there are a choice of compounds.

I think the query is an effort to determine the physical dimensions of the pad.

Yet another reason I am sorry I purchased a 02 RS. Anyone have part numbers and brands of after market pads that will fit a 02 RS?

Yebisu69: You are right, i'm asking to see if the old age pads will fit and then i'll get whatever compounds i want after i know what pads will fit.

BUT, it seems like no on really knows for sure? or are they definately different than the old age RS AND the WRX?

- another question, if the capiler is the same then the size is the same? or are they not related? thanks

OE part number for 02 RS pads is 26296FE020..................OE number for WRX pads is 26296AE081. Outback calipers, pads and rotors are same as RS.

99-01 RS pads carry OE part number of 26296AC041. Now follow this for a second...............aftermarket brake suppliers say 26296AC041 are the same configuration as 26296AE081 ......therefore 99-01 RS pads = 2002 WRX pads in shape and size. I work for an importer and have been in the parts business for 30+ years.

I think what he's asking is if the old style 2.5rs and the 02 2.5rs uses the same brake pads. not the WRX.
from what I heard the wrx uses the same calipers as the 99-01 2.5 rs, but the rotors are bigger. I assume the pads would also be different

yeah i'm trying to find out what aftermarket pads i need to buy since everyone i asked so far can't give me an answer,

only to say that the old age RS and the WRX are the same....

SO, does that mean that the new age RS (MY02) has completely different brake pads compared to all the other imprezas out there?!?! !

Did you try COBBtuning? Those guys might know.

I banged my head up against the same problem. I bought AXXIS Metal Masters for the WRX and found that they do not fit the stock 02RS brackets. The bracket shape is the the determining facter, not the caliper.

Of course the 02RS caliper does not fit the WRX bracket.

If you don't want to go hog wild, your best bet is to buy someone's wrx front brake setup - calipers, rotors and brackets. Then you can use any aftermarket pad the wrx can use.

Or you can do what I did, and give up on the stock 02RS fronts and buy 98-01RS rims with 4-pot fronts.

Okay, since it was brought up but not answered...DO the OEM WRX brake pad share the same compound as the GC8 RS brake pad? They seem to have different part numbers but does that necessarily mean the compound is different?

Default It sounds like Outback = 02 RS

If that is the case, who makes aftermarket performance pads for the Outback and is the bracket the same so they fit the 02 RS?

That's a tough one. When was the last time anyone saw an outback tearing up the track.
