Default need help switching from ecutek to ap v.2!

so here is my situation. i have an 02 wrx that has an ecutek tune on it right now. i have an ap v.2 that i want to use on my car. i am able( i think) to use the easyecu and switch my ecu back to stock. when i try and marry the ap to the car, i get all the way to the program stage and it says it is unable to communicate with the ecu. the whole time the ap is trying to marry up, the car is in test mode. any help will be very appreciated!! am i going to have to ship this off to cobb to get fixed? i called them and they said they cant do it on 02 ecu's which is odd...again any help would be awesome!!

you probably have to contact a ecitek dealer to remove it. Sometimes the v2 ap will flash right over the ecutek tunes

The current V2 Aps no longer have the ability to copy over ecutek. Even if the ecu is flashed back to stock the ecutek license will remain on the ecu.

For some reason the older APv2 firmware would allow you to copy over existing ecutek's but something along the line has chanced.

so i contacted ecutek today, got a stock rom file, flashed in on without a problem. tried the ap...same freakin issue. "communications error" spoke with cobb and they said my only option at this time is a stock ecu....anyone have any other ideas? cobb said that they cant erase the ecu and put it back to stock. i guess the older ecu's dont allow this like the 2.5 ecu's do.

Basically, you'll need either another ECU, or you will need to send yours in to Cobb to have them "remove" the license.

Cobb can remove only reflash the ECU to stock on 06+WRX and any 2.5L ECU.

exactly! for future people searching, if you have an 02-05 wrx with an ecutek tune, and you want to switch to ap. save yourself the trouble and buy a used ecu. BUT MAKE SURE THE SERIAL NUMBER IS CORRECT FOR YOUR MODEL YEAR!!! i bought a used one, with the correct serial number, and have succesfully flashed my ap to it.

thanks for all the help nasioc!!

Also, most ecutek tuners can remove the license from your ECU.

I would buy a used stock ECU, then sell your ECU with the license to someone who wants an ecutek tune. That way they don't have to pay the $350 license fee, and just have to pay for the tuners time.
