Default 2008 wrx automatic transmission strength.

Was thinking about trading my wife's matrix in for a wrx automatic for her. How much beating can there auto tranny take? 300whp? less/more? I searched, but nothing came close to 08, just a bunch of 02-05.

it will take exactly as much as it will and no more

the 08 was the bastard child of the gr chassis wrx's and is broke dick lame all the way around in any event

it would be fine for the wife....moddding it would be....well like modding a cow.....wont get ya much and isnt worth it, really

by the time you spend enough $$$ on trying to mod it you will realize what a waste of time it is and stop...the trans will take that much...but you will want to kick yourself in the crotch, repeatedly, at that point

no way in hell id buy an at wrx with the intention of modding it unless it was a track only car in which case id rather buy a v6 mustang as a better, MUCH cheaper, platform

dont worry about the trans....worry about the rest of the car, first

I'm pretty sure POWERTRAIN means engine discussion, not transmissions.

One could argue the opposite

My 09 impreza 2.5GT is essentially the same car. Cobbs Stage2 transformed the car completely. Stock, it was a low/mid 15-second car. With Cobbs stage 2, I ran 13.7 @ 101. On the street, it's a blast to drive and tough to beat from stoplight to stoplight. I have beaten a lot of "faster cars" because of the way the car launches and instatly spools. There's a huge difference between the 2.0L turbo 4eats and the 2.5L. I agree that the 2.0's were slugs (I used to own one) and didn't respond well to mods. But this isn't thecase with the 2.5.

The bad news is that my 4eat didn't last very long at this power level, only 76k. I had a tranny cooler since it was new, and did regular fluid changes. But I did a few brake TQ launches at the dragstrip -maybe that did some damage, but who knows. Good luck

^^^ raise from the dead!

I have a 08 wrx 4EAT and been on stage 2 for a little while, seems to be fine. I dont brake boost or anything, not even launching it (when you put it in N and rev and drop it in D). Holds up great, shifts smooth still. I'm wanting more power so I am putting in a vf52, perrin tmic, cobb dp, aem cai, perrin inler, grimmespeed ebcs, with a 2011 wrx catback, sti fuel pump. Hopefully it will hold up, otherwise i'll just part out and sell it for an STi.

basically Torque performance stage 3.52 for the 08's

That's not launching, that's a neutral drop. Proper way to launch in an automatic is to pump up the brake pedal in D, and pin the throttle. the RPMs will go to the torque converter stall speed, say on my 01 RS, it's 2400rpm, when the light turns green let off the brake and hold on

Don't do it for too long, so watch for the yellow that proceeds your green, doing this builds up a great amount of heat in the transmission.

No one really answered you here. The 08 are Better car then the matrix. It's a nice amount of power and they ride nicer than sti stock. Of course if your looking for the rally experience an sti would be better, but for daily driver i prefer wrx. On the pdi I've noticed the wrxs feel more comfortable . As long as you service the transmission and don't run odd sized tires etc you will be fine. ... Don't brake torque and AWD
Transmission longevity depends solely on you. If you tow, live where it's hot, sandy, cold etc then be religious with your services.
I Have a 5sp 2.5i with a rear tailstock bearing gone but that's diff technically

Learned something new! thanks for clearing that up, I dont actually do either of that. I'm the first owner of a subaru in my whole family, everyone either ones a toyota/scion/lexus. all of which are slow and non-sporty (tc are Not sports cars). I have to make sure it stays reliable otherwise i will get tons of poop from them. so far so good

Im honestly not looking for any rally, racing type experience. I just really like more power because i feel like it lags behind the 09's. This will be my final build anyway. Let's hope i dont break anything

For an automatic, yes. The only time you may want one on a manual is if you have a front LSD that generates a lot of heat.
