Default 09 SEDAN partial smoked tails...

Haven't seen any 09 sedans with the tails done, only hatches. Anyhow, I originally was going to do the full tails in Lamin-x smoke color, but after I put one on I decided that looked a bit too ricey for my liking and would also attract police attention (this area is not mod-friendly).

So I did some knifework and just did the clear signal/reverse lighting. I think it works pretty well with the rest of my blacking-out theme on the trunk. The clear section was just too "corolla-esque" imo...If anything, it's easy to remove if I decide otherwise

Anyhow, some pics if anyone cares:

I'm split on it myself. sometimes I think it looks wierd, and others I like it. Was trying to do something to make the tail look less like a corolla, lol...

we'll see how long I keep it on there. My wife doesn't like it, so that's usually a sign that I'll keep it

You did a really nice job on it. I'm not sure if I'm in love with it yet, but it'll probably grow on me.

I like it, in the first picture it looks nice and dark, and I think it looks lighter in the second picture because of the lighting. with a black car, you would want the tint as dark as possible IMO. now you just need a black background behind the subaru stars.

are you going to tint the 3rd brake light?

You should fully smoke the tails (i mean smoke smoke) and itll look sick. Full smoke > light smoke. Light smoke looks stupid imo, if your gonna smoke it - SMOKE IT dont leave it light.

Whenever I see wrx's with the tail lights on like 35% tint I think it looks so stupid.

anyways it looks pretty cool-- make it darker though or do the whole tail lights

edit : oh nevermind its irishj
Leave it, dont smoke it, you live in NOVA lol. I luckily had my 07 tails FULLY smoked and didnt get any attention.

I did the whole tails and it didn't look good IMO. Thought it looked ricey...shoudl have taken some pics. And here in Fairfax you KNOW I'd be racking up some tickets with that....You know how FCPD is....

I'm not a big fan of tinting taillights and brake lights anyhow - I mean...I WANT people to see them

yeah, when I get around to it probably. Hard to show the lighting there since I had the 8 garage flourescent lights shining at the car, and it was overcast and rainign at the time.

I'd love to have all my tint darker (lights, windows, etc)...but I also like to not get tickets or fix-it orders or attract attention, so I try to keep it as close to legal as possible (and any taillight tint is illegal here).

I wouldn't smoke the whole tail, that was a look for the previous gen Impreza IMO. However, do go a bit darker.

FCPD and MCPD are pretty similar, but I hear way more horror stories about them NOVA cops...

I've personally never had problems (my only speeding tix in the last 12 years in this area were in Maryland, lol)...but then again my cars in the past (all modded pretty heavily) were done pretty stealth with all the good where you couldn't see them.

The subaru is louder, more "kid racer" looking than my Maxima, Accord, or Integra and is a WRX...so I might not have as much of that "stealth" anymore, so I'm being fairly careful with what I do to it

how did you black out the chrome bit? i've been thinking about removing it or doing... SOMETHING... to get rid of it. looks ridiculous.

someone i came across at a meet smoked out everything except the reverse lights, looked pretty good and i think i might do the same thing. an auto shop here on post did it for him, came out really clean, only cost $60 too.

I took the piece off, sanded, and painted it. Did the grille and WRX badging too. I tried to do the window sill chrome with black trim tape, but it started peeling up after a week...will try some other method soon.
