Other Electronics(CB, police scanners, radar detectors, laser jammers) (No idea when this will happen, but it would be worthwhile I think) Here is something to get started. It's one of the best radar detectors out there. Pretty expensive but well worth it. Valentine One: http://www.valentine1.com/ |

I want to bump this because lately we've had a lot of questions that can very easily be answered by the great info provided in the first posts. This is the most comprehensive thread of Car Audio that's ever gone through this section, and not enough people see it.

I have a 2005 Impreza Outback Sport.
It has the 6-disc player, subwoofer, etc. I'd like to get iPod capability, so would it be possible to swap in a head unit from a 2008 into our 2005? |

Hello, im a complete newb when it comes to audio systems. Will a 06 WRX stock stereo fit in my 04 WRX? I assume it will not be a direct plug and play, so what will be needed to make it work? Where could it be purchased?

I believe that it should fit and be directly PnP for you. Of course a dealership could guage you on a new unit, but there should be plenty of people selling stock units in the classifieds. BTW also please try starting questions as a new post, this is what most consider 'thread-jacking'.

factory amp
I have a '10 impreza with the "premium" 6 disc changer. I swapped in an alpine 50watt cd player. Is there a factory amp in the impreza and if so where is it?

new owner trying to get a new stereo
I am a proud new owner of 2006 subaru impreza outback sport special edition and I am a huge newb when it comes to car stereos. To my knowledge, my car has SE pkg: 260 watt Premium CD changer, 6 speakers, tweeters, upgraded speakers, subwoofer/amp. If I want to buy an aftermarket HU, do I need one that can accomodate all 6 speakers? Should I look for a certain wattage on the HU that will work well with my speakers? Will a standard HU work for this car?Any and all suggestions or help is much appreciated

Great thread.
I just ordered a clarion nx501 after a lot researching. I plan to install it myself to save a few bucks. To clear things up, is there anything else I would need to install this HU and maintain SWC other than the following: 1.20pin harness w/ 3 SWC wires from SVXdc 2. Axxess ASWC 3. Metra 95-8902 Dash kit Would i also need the antenna adapter? I have a 2011 2.5i premium non-nav Also, for those of you with built-in gps units, how/where did you place the GPS receiver? Thanks for the help. Last edited by bdot; 11-09-2011 at 04:35 PM. |

Completely agree!! Caps where a means of a bandaid back in the day. There were cheap compared to a second battery and worked well for the lower power amps of the day. With power demands of today's amps, they are less than worthless.
With the lowering cost of batteries and upgraded alternators, it is silly to run caps. A .5 - 1 farad (most common sized) will not be able to sustain power to any amp over even a short amount of time. Stepping up to a larger 1.5 - 2 farad is even worse because the larger the farad value the longer the cap takes to charge. With reactive music constantly pulling current, the longer the cap takes to charge the less likely it is to regain a full charge or any charge of value at all to the system. Once depleted the cap is nothing more than a power conditioner and an additional load on the car battery and charging system. A cap is nothing more than a reserve that is filled by the charging system. If the charging system cannot keep up, the cap will not be fully charged and continuously lowering in available amperage. To put in a simple analogy, you wouldn't put a small half gallon gas tank (cap) in line with your engine (amp) from your original gas tank (battery) because "enough fuel isn't getting to the motor". You'd Upgrade the fuel pump (alternator). If your lights are dimming, buy a better battery or an upgraded alternator. Always upgrade factory wiring (some call this "big 3")! |

Offset, I would maybe add something about how to tune amplifiers using an oscilloscope or DVOM How not to run a power wire for an amp (not the door jam). Write a how to on getting it through a factory grommet or drilling and adding a new grommet. Great info for newbies of car audio! |

I am a total newbie...registered an hour ago. Have a fantastic 95 Legacy Wagon w/250m on it. Must replace the radio and have a "new" 2011 Clarion Model PF3292AA lacking an Installation/Owners Manual. Only problem is the plug-ins do not match. Any basic input from anyone?
PS: This looks like a g-r-e-a-t site and I look forward to enjoying your collective knowledge and input. tboyoned |
