C&D are notorious for "enthusiastic" driving, and owners usually do BETTER on mpg's. Was trying to give them and the "good" cars some credit.

Mine does get 32+ average all the time. And I very rarely get out onto the highway or interstate.

Agreed, though I think it is harder to exceed the EPA numbers with the Impreza, I meet but don't exceed them, and I am pretty easy on the car 99% of the time.
But their numbers cannot be considered low, they meet the window sticker promise, particularly impressive since they don't have to pay for their own gas, and have no incentive to take it easy on the car since they don't pay for it, and get another new car to drive in the near future, so long term reliability is a non-factor. |

Heres diplomacy in action!
I will agree with that, Zeeper. And will go so far as to say that I'm surprised at their mpg's. It is impressive for THOSE folks to even meet epa. I go pretty easy on mine too, it isnt hard to though as its all 40mph zones around here. |

Lol, I was thinking the same thing about C&D being a heavy footed and was a little surprised to see them get 28mpg. I don't know if C&D got a "good" one or did they do something different from CR during the breakin period.

Quite true. The 5 speed appears to consistently meet its expectations.

Maybe he was financially able to get out of it and did so. Who knows. His dealer/subaru experience sounds very familiar though.

79 dayum, you sound a lot like Riggins on Friday Night Lights....cool. Anyhow so after your video, yea that soot is nasty dude. I can't believe that when you first saw that....no one really could help you...that's disgusting for such a new car. You really got a bad one man. I don't know what others back ends look like, but I can only imagine. I find it hard to believe that CR rates this car #1 seeing as the simplest thing...oil burning can't be fixed.
So if something cannot be fixed.....how reliable is that... 0%? Not sure I trust anyone at this point. Like I said...if you have good luck in life...maybe you Impreza is fine...but my luck sucks. If I bought the 2012/13 Impreza I can almost guarantee I'd get one that burns oil. |

^ which is nearly impossible to do, and will be a lot of headaches for the owner. And that doesn't guarantee the car will be fixed, and your warranty doesnt get extended.
As to my consumption, its burned 1.75 quarts in 4200 miles during the last couple months of "winter". The soot, yeah its pretty thick. I wash my car every week and pressure wash it (gently) after work on fridays. The back of the car is the only part that has black buildup. The rest of the car has light colored dust from the nearby limerock plant. |

Is there every a guarantee that your car will be fixed with any repair? Would you rather SOA say, "Too bad your car burns 2 quarts every 1k miles, we won't repair it because it might not work". If you are so grim on SOA's repair procedure and doubt everything, PLEASE SELL YOUR CAR. |

most jersey subaru dealerships are the wild west man, trust me the stupid is strong with them. I only know of one semi decent one in the entire state, even more so that the outback driver had a 6speed, jersey dealerships are big into autos not mtl. RUNN!!!! I rather travel to upstate ny if the only good dealership here pulls anything. In fact bought my car in upstate ny thats how much confidence I have in the nj dealership network.

If no one here as something to share related to the subject of this thread that could help someone, please post else where. For some of the lucky one that doesn't bought an impreza with a 2 stroke oil burning type engine your are not obliged to put some more oil in the fire By the way there is probably environnemental standards that new cars engine needs to meet. That's what I'm actually trying to find to over helm the Subaru industry standard oil consumption (L per 2000km) statement they are using. |

Engine oil is used to cool and lubicate the engines moving parts and not to be used as a consumable like gas. Burned oil leaves unwanted deposit everywhere as on : valve seats, piston top, spark plugs and catalytic converter. Anyway my engine is now steadily burning a 1L every 3000 km so I should be happy... at least it's not burning 1L every 2 001 km I would be in the same situation, not meeting the requirements. I don't think that consumer should accept this answer from Subaru. I would if they had advice me of this feature (1L every 2000km is tolerate) before buying. In this case I would live with it because that would have been fair. |

The oil consumption issue is an issue - it is allowed by many car manufacturers in their disclaimers - not right IMHO; but that is the fact. If the oil burn is at the bottom or even close to the bottom of the disclaimer, then that, IMHO, is totally wrong; however, the dealer is "crippled" from providing assistance because the manufacturer will not "chip in". I believe everyone on this "board" fully understands the consequences of an "oil burner" and your points are "taken" even though your use of English is a bit poor - might be better stated in French and then we can "Google" to English (seems more a rant than anything else). Have to agree with ST Eye as he/she is more coherent...

That said, in the interest of trying to figure out what is going on with excessive oil consumption engines, it would be great if we can get compression and leakdown tests on the troublesome engines. Having those numbers we can compare it to a baseline "good" engine. That way we perhaps get a better idea of the root cause. |
