Thanks boss! Hopefully post some numbers here tonight. Not looking forward to leaving P & L at prime time Chicago traffic, might hang out for a bit if some.other cars are hitting the dyno

Good tuning today!

I'm not gonna make it over to Chicago today and the weather looks like it's going to screw me for tomorrow. I am going to have to reschedule my touch up tune.

I really wish I was closer to Chicago. Would have been nice to have Junior tune the car in person.

Good news today, I learned a lot about how Subaru motors work and why things work and what things don't. I think the biggest thing I learned is that there's no such thing as being too anal.

Something is going on with the injector so I'm going to send them into fuel injector clinic to get tested in the meantime buy some ID 2000.

We're having issues getting it to idle and so we opted just to bag it for the night, never even unlock the rollers. Sorry for the lack of a fun update but sometimes that's the way the ball bounces

Damn, sorry to hear that man. Delays can make your frustrated but in the end I know you'll have a blast driving this beast with a great tune from JR. How long did you fiddle with it before you called it quits and what kind of injector problem are you having? You can do an individual injector test to verify they all fire at least.

I know this is a bummer and a tough pill to swallow now but it will all work out and you will make big power! Stay alert and drive safe tonight!!

This sure explains all of the issues you were having with the AFR hunting and idling issues!

Yeah it is a bummer, but it isn't the end of the world. You made out a little better than I did because at least you left with a functional car but when I go down in March it'll be fine.

I am still being optimistic about the whole thing.

We fiddled with it for probably about 2 hours or so . . If not more, I don't know I fell asleep sitting in the chair for 5 minutes or so. Junior isolated the problem by shutting off individual injectors and then seeing if he can get it to idle, when he shot of cylinder two injector it would Idol at about 14afr.

So do you think it is stuck open, shut, or just being erratic?

It won't respond like the others at the lowest opening possible ie... takes more juice to get that one going or it doesn't spray as it should be.

I wish it would work but I guess instant's like these are why junior suggests IDs

We should make a thread asking tuners what's the most easy combinations for them to tune...

(Spark plugs), (which intake w/maf, what filter), (fuel system, injectors), (ecu)

Carmi, I totally agree with you, I did just this when I was doing my built motor this fall and it was a good idea to do so as I believe that my build is well balanced in the parts selection. I consulted Dom Acai and Junior and Angel Ortiz/ HP Techs in Detroit. Dom built my MPS LR 2.5 short block, Angel built my heads and did a bunch of the assembly and fab work, he not a tuner but a very good and knowledgeable mechanic and Junior who tuned my most recent build and my last VF/ stock motor build.

It was unanimous amongst all three of them that I should use the ID1000 injectors but I owned these DW1100 injectors that looked pretty good on the reports. I think I sent the flow report to Dom and he pointed out that at low/ 20% IDC there was a big difference in one injector. So I sent the injectors back to DW to see if they could find a better match to the other 3. DW could not replace it as they were out of production and they had no others. They told me they were within specs and should be OK. I actually sent them back to them again for battery offset testing before the final install, they forgot to tell me when they had them the time before that they could do this test to give latency values!

In hind site I should have followed Angel, Dom and Jr's suggestion and got rid of them and bought the ID1K's. I did not do this we installed them and it bit me in the ass when Junior tuned my XTI. They would not run well down low, idle was not good and there was hesitation at low-mid IDC's. After the initial tune I contacted DW and bitched, they took them back on an RA. and gave me replacement EV14 1000's which I sold. So even though I made pretty good numbers on the initial tune, they would have been better as Junior held back some timing and boost because he did not trust the injectors!

Junior and I are still on board for one more touch up tuning session at PnL rescheduled for March 11 at noon. I felt this was the best and fair way to finish the tune seeing as how it was my mistake in the first place to install the inferior injectors!

It was a lesson for me and luckily I did not screw anything up or break anything, thanks Junior! So live and learn is my motto and don't make the same mistake twice!!

We trust vendors to help us make the right decisions but I will consult the people I really trust in the future!!

That is crazy interesting, because Dom noticed my AVCS wasn't working too well when I did some data logs. That was a great thread.

I dont know what my idle is right now, I believe it was 1100 when I left last night. I didn't get home till 255 or so, I think I rebuilt my motor 22.4 times in my head to see if there was anything I messed up.

Hopefully noone uses that thread above for the wrong purposes to avoid a real tune, it sure was useful for learning though.

**Edit**
That whole post was awesome to read. Will probably read multiple times. My buddy is still at mich tech and they were trying to develop a pressure sensor for their clean snowmobiles, I sent him that link, maybe they can contact that company for insight.

I couldnt agree more about Carmi's comment, but I dont know if a consensus would ever be reached because for different applications, certain things may perform better. I do know that my IDs are getting ordered ASAP though! I want to be there for the 11th at 10am.

I'm a bit curious as to why you'd get the HUGE ID's when I see Junior saying that with a proper fuel system, the 1k's are good for nearly 140 traps worth of power.
