Computers don't really learn driving styles, they learn to operate under certain conditions. Resetting the ECU would mean the car has to re-learn gentle driving as well as hard driving. I wouldn't bother.

Has anyone had issues with their tires? The stock Yokohama Avid S34 are some of the worst reviewed tires on TireRack.
I have 7300 miles with no issues yet, but the good news is that they may be worn and in need of replacement by the time it snows, so I wont have to worry about poor snow traction. Quote:
Where did you pick that up from? I like the look with the badge. What is the depth/interior space like? I was thinking of putting some Hella 500ff's behind my grille, but I don't think it would work with the stock grille. Last edited by foghelmut; 10-22-2012 at 11:24 AM. |

A couple of people here replaced the "terrible" OEM tires before they drove the car off the lot. Kind of silly, but that's just my opinion. They can spend their money any way they want to, it does not affect my car or my enjoyment of driving on the stock tires. I bought snows for this year, and plan on driving the stock tires into the ground, just not during the winter from now on. |

Edit: You should be able to get another 10/12k miles of use on the stock tires as long as it doesn't rain or snow much. |

The stock tires are good in dry conditions and decent in wet, I would say. Haven't driven them in snow yet though.

Hate to re-hash this old convo but I'm more than happy with the stock Yoko's. I've driven them in fresh powder as well as slush & been more than satisfied. Handling, stopping, all of it. The traction control helps on stops & coming off a stop so you don't spin out. I'm confident snow tires or Conti DWS perform better but the stocks will remain on for a 2nd winter this year.

Update on LED Hatch lighting
LED strip lights in the rear hatch:
I ordered a 2 meter strip of white LED's off ebay for $8.99. (5050 2 meter LED flexible waterproof light strip). These can be cut every 3 LED's to customize the length, I ended up using 43" to cover the area shown, so just over a meter. It is pretty simple to add lights that operate off the hatch light (comes on when the hatch is open, after a while reduces to 50% light output, and later will shut off which is how the trunk/hatch light seem to work). I popped out the rear hatch light to expose the wiring. There are two wires there, the Pink wire is hot (and is always hot), and the other wire is the ground, which operates via the hatch open switch to turn on the lights. When the hatch is closed, the switch disconnects the Ground, not the Hot wire (so it is easiest just to tap into both wires and run those directly to the LED strip). The plastic at the rear of the hatch (that the shade locks into) has an "airbag" emblem. Removing the one black screw in the shade lock area and prying that plastic back reveals that the airbag is not in that area, and provides room to route the wiring easily. The strip I ordered had a 3M adhesive strip, but to help hold everything in place I used some Zip ties and poked holes in the headliner on either side of the strip, pried the headliner down slightly, and installed the zip tie on the roof side of the headliner. Not that hard to do, and there is no way the strip can fall down that way. Here is a pic -- good mod for under $10: |

Originally I had only tapped into the Pink (+) wire and ran my own ground, but I soon figured out that the hatch switch mechanism operates by interrupting the Ground wire, not the positive wire. I had to tap the switches Ground wire in order for my strip to shut off when the hatch was closed. I ran the strip overhead just inside the door, the headliner there is easy to move and there is enough room to zip tie it there without removing the headliner. If this strip dies I will install another, it is pretty cool and quick to install. In that position it is also weatherproof, as it is inside the car and the weatherstripping. The amount of light is amazing, and that position works well to light up the hatch -- it is much brighter than the interior dome light and that little side hatch light. When the strip is lit, you will not see the zip ties (it is very bright!) When the strip is unlit, no one is really going to notice it tucked up in back near the hatch, unless you regularly tie up people and stuff them in your hatch face up. I suggest you leave them face down, then they won't obsess if your zip ties are crooked! Last edited by Zeeper; 10-26-2012 at 08:35 AM. |

Any having any rattling noise issues (Plastic?) with their Impreza?
I am getting a very annoying rattle noise from this area. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, did you do anything to fix it? Rattle Noise by jmaiden91184, on Flickr |

Anyone added some ambient lighting to be on with the headlights or possibly on a switch? Like LED strips in the footwell and in the door handles and things like that...

Does anybody know how to make the car leave your headlights on after you take the key out on an auto headlight system? In Canada at least, even if you have the lights switched on and not on auto once you take the key out they turn off.

You would have to turn them one notch up on the stalk.

Bluetooth issue
The Bluetooth in my car worked flawlessly until two moths ago. Now it won't connect to my phone, or any other phone automatically. Is there any way to do a master reset on the audio system to try and fix it? Pretty annoying to have to go into my phones settings and connect each time I drive.

Yes, the tow anchor point should be beneath the bumper cover and the screw in Tow-hook should be where the spare is.
