yah, all is very interesting,
i've been told that my stock rotors can't be turned (they're 29mm now and "warped") and i am in need of a new set (front) for 2012 sti. called local dealer and they quoted me 433 per rotor ..... i say - it's a ripoff. since i am not doing track or rally, and not going for a punk look: what would be a smart reasonably priced decent quality rotor? would it make a difference if chunk of metal is called duralast or stoptech or brembo? would my stoptech street performance pads (which i got for less dust reason) eat into either brand faster or warp them quicker? should i bother looking for specific brand or just purchase cheapest direct fit online? btw, what is that myth about "warping" disks, as far as i understand vibrations come from un-evenly spread break pad material http://www.stoptech.com/technical-su...nd-other-myths so when i called local shop about turning my rotors they told me that discard size is 27mm for my rotors and my rotors start with 29.74mm new, so to get them "straight" from being "warped" they need to take more than 1mm from each side, can there really be more than 1mm or breakpad material left on rotor that's not seen by naked eye? thanks ! |

I just picked up a 2015 impreza last night....CVT both othewise base...i must say that this thing has more decisive stopping power than my 2011 WRX.... tempting to upgrade to a 2015 rex

And probably has more braking assist, and more weight transfer from softer springs..?

Well written! I've had my share of fast cars over the years that ranged from mid 11's in the 1/4 up to stockers that were in the 13's. I was a mechanic for 19 yrs before my career change and NEVER had to upgrade/modify my brake systems. I just kept on top of my OEM style brake systems and serviced them accordingly - never had an issue!! - Even in my 3200 lbs 67 Firebird which was in the mid 11's, had drums all around and stopped after the traps with plenty of track left to go everytime!

Excellent read, now I know to save my cash and just buy better tires, as that has numerous performance gains instead of braking systems which will only help me in my pedal feel.

Very, very informative post. Thank You. Not that I am doing any speeding, but there are times when knowing shortest brake times could save a wreck, or help miss a tree.

brake fade
Quote:
I have been in situations where the continual use of brakes, improved or stock, where the riding of brakes will fade. Shift down a gear on corners and steep hills and save your brakes until you really need them. |

One thing to add, putting a 1000 piston caliper is not doing anything or increasing brake bite, what it is doing is making you think your awesome. The stopping force is from how the brake fluid moves through the caliper and how evenly it is distributed to each piston.

S/S lines are good for track. No hose expansion from the insane heat so no loss of stopping power.

Recent incident
I Just recently had an incident where a truck could stop faster than I could causing me to collide with him. haha Anyway most of it was probrably because I dont have ABS in my 95 subaru impreza L with the 2.2l eng. but I am also losing brake fluid somewhere and my brake light stays on for the whole winter and this most recent summer it never went off. Any information on how the brake light sensor functions or what might make my brake light come on other than having my parking brake on would be greatly appreciated. For the past 2 years or so it would come on for the winter and go off when it thawed, (I live In michigan), but this last summer it never went off. Any info would be appreciated. I like to understand things so if you think something you want to share is irrelevent, **** you, tell me that irrelevent peice of info. It is what makes me happy.
