Cool Lazer Tag (Worlds of Wonder) - Circa 1986

So did anyone have this or play this?

I remember for about two summers, a large group of us would play this regularly. Different from paintball these days as we would just find huge local parks at night and play. Now that I think back, it was sad and lame but fun for us back then. The ones that had rifles would spray paint it black. I wish I would upkept my set as they're selling for a good chunk of change these days on eBay. I remember when KayBee Toys (while still open) sold the sets for $9.99 to phase them out.

Then came Photon, the cheap knockoff of Lazer Tag.

Lazer Tag RULED.

My friends and I would sneak out of our houses at night and go to a huge field in the middle of the neighborhood at night and play capture the flag over the entire neighborhood with Lazer Tag equipment and walkie talkies.

I loved the Photon TV show, but I had all the Lazer Tag stuff. I still have the base station, a sensor hat, and my black pistol.

I had em...the "battles" would end up with friends smacking the crap out of each other with the guns because the other person kept covering up their chest target.

Hahaha - dude, many of our games got heated due to covering the sensors on our waist. The rifle was way sweet since it had rapid fire.

Ooh, the rifle was pimp. Didn't it have a setting where one shot would register as 5 hits?

Photon was like 10x better than lazer tag, in terms of build quality. Man I loved that thing. I put the photon detector on my dog's collar and chased him around.

my uncle had a bunch of lazer tag gear. i love on the basic guns there was the little peep sight and pulling the trigger halfway would illuminate a red dot sight.. very cool.. a friend of mine had the "base" which was a stationary thing that would sort of fire back at you.. can't remember quite how it worked..

kinda, it had an automatic mode. it took discipline to use short, controlled bursts to conserve ammo.

I had Photon stuff. It was better, in my opinion, because the guns weren't as wimpy and breakable, and they had sensors ON the guns instead of having to wear the badge on your chest.

This made it more portable and also meant you couldn't hide behind a tree and shoot.

I used to love seeing the blinking red light from 100 yards away across the neighborhood. I'd squeeze off about 100 shots before I'd finally see that first green light come on, hear the beeping sound, then see the victim run for cover not knowing where the shot came from.

Those were the days.

I just remember the wide angle/narrow angle switch on the pistol. I also loved banking shots off mirrors.

Wasn't Photon much more expensive than Lazer Tag?

I loved the lazer tag pistol design. I always felt that it was what laser guns should look like.

My bro and i had photon. I disconnected the speakers and put in headphone jacks instead. There was an outdoor mall near us with a glass enclosed elevator. We used to go over there late at night and play. Needless to say we got kicked out by security on many many occasions.

this random grouping of words might make sense...

Lazer Tag owned. My cousin and I used to practice gorilla warfare, using trees and deer as cover, in the New Hampshire woods behind his house. We usually carried a pistol and rifle each. Serious business.
