Default OT- Eastern Iowa LAN Party

I am helping host a large lan party in.....You guessed it, eastern iowa. We are ready for 128 people, and can make it work for more. There will be prizes and a trophy for the winning team.

We are holding this event at the Amana Colonies RV park, Amana IA. The park is closest to Central Amana, and is pretty close to the junction of 151 and I80.

A little map is located here:

Thanks,

John

A quick description of some of these:

Bag Tourney - if you haven't tried one of these, it's a ton of fun. You gotta have a partner, but you don't have to sit on their lap. It's pretty noisey with people yelling instructions to their partner who doesn't have a clue what's happening. Ehhh... 'nuff said. I first experienced one of these at CaRNaGGe and was hooked.

PCDD - The PC Demo Derby is something we do every year. There are three events: Pancake, Golf, and shot-put. Each team selects one member to compete in each event. The pancake event, each team is given a sledge hammer and a PC and challenged to make the PC as flat as possible in 60 seconds. Golf, you tee-off on and old pentium and see how much distance you can get. The shot put, each team appoints a guy to throw their PC as far as they can. We may have enough inkjet printers this year to toss them instead for one of the events. There are some excelent pics and vids of this on the De/Frag website.

Neverwinter Nights - every single LAN Party has shooter tourneys. There are other genres of games out there, ans some people like them. So we run RTS and RPG tourneys as well. This yea, we will be firing up a Neverwinter Nights server at the begining, and an hour before the awards ceremony we'll be shutting it down. If the quest is incomplete, the winner of the NwN competition will go the the team that has the highest cumulative levels. (characterw will be required to have a minimum level... no running off and creating 300 level 1 chars *evil grin*) This server will have a DM or two running around on it to keep an eye on 'sploiting, and PK'ing will be allowed. Full rules will be available at the event.

Ironman - we also give awards to the brave souls who are bawlsey enough to frag away the entire 40 hours of the event. Contestants are required to have a "sponsor/designated driver" who DOES catch a nap sometime during the event who will drive them home. This can be a taxi, limo, airplane, or your roomate. We don't care, but it's a HUGE liability risk if we reward people for not sleeping for 40 hours, and then kick them out and say "go drive 2 hours to get home and don't fall asleep at the wheel." Ummm... yea... not too good.
