Drove a 10 year old 5.0 mustang this wednesday. The transmission made that poor beat-up hunk feel like a luxury car to me.

Suck it up guys and wear your "sorry transmission badge" with pride.

Default Redline oil

The reason redline works is well explained in the tech section of the Cobb tuning web site. It is a higher friction oil required by the sychros to do their job properly. I got my wrx today and had the dealer put it in for me. Like butter.

I have a 2002 RS and have the problems as the WRX, the dealership told me I didn't know how to drive a stick - I told him that the synchros were out - I was right!! Now about 3 mos. later the tranny is messed up again 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th all grind about 70% of the time - The o2 sensor has gone out already also, plus the driver side fron window fell out of the tracks, the motor quite and it is stuck down, the car's paint is also flaking and rusting - all this on a 2002. Do I here lemon law?

All this on a brand new car?? Gee . . . is this possible?
How many miles do you have on that thing?

What's the difference between the 75W90ns and the "ShockProof" tranny oil that RedLine makes? Does the ShockProof stuff have the same benefits to the synchros as the "ns" stuff?

I'm an oil noob... what oils would you guys recommend for the tranny and the rear-diff? (I'm running Mobil 1 in the motor, btw. Gotta love WalMart: 5qt bottle, $16)

The tranny went out the first time within 2000K miles the car currently has close to 30K I drive about 60mi a day for work then school which has been up to 100mi a day!!! That still doesn't make the problems we've had acceptable - it goes into the dealer tonight - we will see what they say when I tell them I want them to refund the money I have paid on the car and apply it towards a WRX and take the RS to junk yard for all I care, if not I am contacting our local "lemon law" attorneys. I want compensation...do I deserve it?

With 30K miles? You won't get much sympathy, that is considered extreme mileage for a car less than a year old.

The window problem is a known one. The same thing happened to me. After the third time it happened, they tried to blame _my exhaust_ for rattling the bolt loose. I told them that I would be more than happy to take them to court over the cost of repair. They "agreed" to repair it that time, so they put loctite on it, and guess what? Never happened again.

The only problem that I have with the fact of the mileage is that we paid extra for a 7 year 70K mile warranty!! I knew we would put heavy miles on it that is why we got the extended warranty

Just thought I'd post my experiences on the topic.

When my car was new, I had no problems getting it into 1st while rolling. No blip, no double-clutch, just push firmly until it pops. I could easily get it into 1st rolling at 20-25mph. This was fairly consistent with previous manuals I had driven. (Hondas, VWs, Toyotas...)
At ~1500 mi., I put redline oil in the trans. I noticed the shift feel was "lighter", but notchier and no longer went into 1st as easily. (~20 mph max) No big deal, I was still satisfied.
At ~4300 mi., it suddenly and intermittently started grinding when doing the same downshift. I started throttle-blipping to compensate, and didn't have much trouble for the next 200 mi. or so.
Now, it doesn't matter how I do it, it will grind regardless. Sometimes, it seems to be every shift, other times very rarely. It doesn't matter what speed, it could be 2mph and give me a nasty grind.
When I first brought it in, the service guy gave me the "that's how it is designed" speech. Then I showed him how it would grind even at low speed. He told me to drop it off for service, so that's where it is now.

Ironically, the loaner car I got is a Lancer - maybe this is a sign.
