Default STI Sway Bars - Do they fit?

Hi all, wondering if STI stock sway bars fit on a 2001 2.5 RS?? Are they any better than the stock RS sway bars?

No.....

There are many many aftermarket bars out there. Look at www.gruppe-s.com or some other vendors.

Anything's better than the stock RS rear swaybar, which is 13mm. VERY tiny.

www.subaruwrxparts.com/gc8.html

Some of the better prices on bars. Brand new 18 or 20mm FHI (Subaru) swaybars fit directly, and are $80.
Cheaper, usually, if you buy used. The 20mm was stock on the '02 (and maybe other years) WRX sedan (not the wagons).

Otherwise, there's Whiteline, Cusco, Perrin.... lots of aftermarket options. If you go aftermarket, I'd say Cusco's the highest quality of the bunch, at least that I've seen.

The stock FRONT swaybar is 19mm, and very good on its own. Modify your suspension/tires/etc. first before messing with that one. Check www.northursalia.com for a great page or two on Swaybar tech and how the sizing affects your car. Each millimeter you go up, the effect is exponential, not merely additional. 18mm is typically best with a stock RS suspension. 20mm is best with lightly-modified or STi/equivalent strut/spring setups for road use. 22mm is best for coilovers and cars that see more track use.

Any larger than that and you're in to serious race diameter, much too much for a street car, in my opinion. Plus you'll absolutely need upgraded droplinks and mounting hardware, lest you snap your stock pieces into bits around some "spirited" corner in the middle of the night.

Thumbs up

Hey no sweat. For what it's worth, I have an STi Version 5/6 strut & spring combo on my car, and a Whiteline 18-22mm adjustable rear sway. Stock front sway.

I had the Whiteline set to 18mm before the suspension, and 20mm after (which was Oct. 2001 for installation). I've never put it on 22.

I'm probably going to swap to an FHI 20mm bar ASAP. Mostly because mine's pretty old and rusty, and the FHI ones fit better. Plus I never use the adjustability, so I feel almost like it's wasted on my car.

Brian, or North Ursalia, runs Ravensblade-Impreza *and* the Parts Counter at www.subaruwrxparts.com, which is Exeter Subaru in NH. No sales tax in NH, which is nice incentive to buy there, too. He's a parts guru, and knows every Subaru part ever made, inside-out and backwards. Ever need a part number (or PN), he's your guy.

There's a ton of sites that are of help. Just don't ignore www.scoobymods.com. It's where most of us still go to learn.

ps - Me and my manners...... You're welcome!
