Front & rear swaybar questions
A couple of questions:
1) What are the original swaybar dimensions for the Forester (99L)? 2) What's this about a front swaybar? I didn't know the Forester had a front swaybar. Doohhh! 3) What's a good combo fro the front/rear to improve handling without affecting the ride (as in harsh freeway cruising)? Thanks y'all!

Rear swaybar discussed here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=217241 Don't know anyone who replaced the front swaybar on the forester. I upgraded my front swaybar endlinks, but that is about it. You might want to browse through the last 60 days of posts in this forum. should answer most of your questions. |

forget the front bar
QAScooter, I'd recommend just going with the whiteline adjustable 18-22mm rear swaybar. I have mine set @ 20 and love the ride. You'll have an improvement in your turn in and the ride is only slightly altered, but not harsh in my opinion. Where in so. Cal are you? If you like I can show you the set up that I have.

I don't know about the front sway bar, but the rear stock diameter is 13mm.
Most folks just up the diameter on the rear sway bar to firm up handling. It gives more bang for the buck and is a lot easier to do than the front. Ken |

Well a lot of folks seem to leave the front sway bar alone.....up the rear to 18 or 20mm and add a front strut brace just because it is so easy to do . Add some upgraded tires/wheels and you have enhanced the handling significantly. Not much money......

IIRC Stock front is 19mm. Finding a replacement will be difficult.

I was under the car today and looked at the front sway bar. Looks like some serious effort would be involved in replacing that. I am leaving it alone.
I took the rear (Cusco) off as it there was not much blue left. Cleaned the rust off, sanded it down and painted it Tremclad Dark Blue. Looks close to the original color now. Had to take the family out, massive body roll without the rear bar. Felt like I was driving a Blazer. Had to do "low speed" cornering. I am waiting for paint to cure before reinstalling. TonyS |

Whoa dude not exactly the smartest thinking i have ever heard! I second lakepop's post. I replaced my 13mm with an 18mm and added a front strut tower bar. this combination alone made for a more neutral handeling Forester. Next, when the Geolanders needed replacement I put on some Falken Ziex ZE-502's. Not the greatest things in the snow, but runs circles around the Geolanders in the rain and road handeling in the dry. These come in the stock size, so no reason to replace the wheels. Just my $0.02 White Wolf Please Recycle |

I guess "massive" is a relative term. I usually run with the bar set to 21 and have solid endlinks. To drive without the bar isn't that bad, just no racing around corners. Could be worse, if I did not have both strut bars installed.
