$150-250 for a midpipe?
I called a local shop for an estimate to build me a midpipe to connect to my prodrive muffler and they told me it would be 150 to 250 bucks to build and install the pipe.
He said the pipe would be 50 bucks but total would be a lot more. If I take my stock midpipe in to them can they accurately build a custom midpipe so I can save the install prices or do they have to have the car? I would much rather install it on my own if I can.

In the words of the great Mike Tyson, "That's ludicrious!" $150 is what you'd pay for a prebuilt Stainless steel Stromung mid-pipe! "They tryin to rob you bra." Did you go to another shop to ask for a different quote yet? |

That is a reasonable price. I had a custom 2.25" midpipe made for me that ran me $120 including welding on everything, gaskets, and a few othr small parts. You have got to remember that it is not necessarily the parts that cost you, it is the labor. Parts would only be a quarter of the total cost. Most places are gonna charge between $50-$60 an hour for labor and a job like this would be around an hour. While obyone is correct that a stromung midpipe would cost $150 you would still need the shop to install everything and that would run you upwards of $60.
Now on the idea of them just building and bending the pipe for you it may not be a bad idea except that if you are increasing the diameter of the midpipe(which im sure you are) then everything will be needed to be welded together. Plus I want to say that they will not make you a midpipe and then just sell it to you, just like alot of tire places wont mount tires onto rims that are not bought from them. |

I just called a place by my house. They quoted me $70 total. I don't know what kind of work they do, but he said to come on down and take a look. Cant wait!
