Question Dual stage or Single MBC ???



I'm not sure what to do here, only because I'm not sure just how watered down my motor really is... If anyone here can Help me out a little bit, I will make a better informed decision on my next purchase.

I'm researching manual boost controllers, I've been around turbo cars for a while so I see the gains all the time, now that I got my own It's time for me to choose between a Dual stage with in cabin switch, or single stage Adjustible.

Does Anyone know if the stock baja's 11.6 Psi is set lower then it can handle or what? I thought the STI has about 13 maybe? but I realize we have certain different parts internally. I'm guessing the pistons and rods are the same correct? I'm looking to get a dual stage boost controller from Turbo XS so I can go tune it for 13 and 17 psi. I needed to know if 17 is to high for being bone stock, or if I can get away with that for a few passes down the track, or a good impressive dyno run? I wont be running 17 every day, but more then likely, I will run the 13 psi constantly, and I'm an easy driver .. I only get on it to pass people on highways and such.. No nonsence street racing.

Along with that, Does anyone here have that dual stage controller, and if so how do you like it? I'm guessing no by lack of threads about performance upgrades around here but.. I'm going to be doing just a couple, Like the Boost controller, (some how a BOV which i dont see anybody doing either for some reason??) and a tri gauge A pillar pod to monitor my tune. nothing spectacular, just meters for watching and helping with the Tune of the boost controller.

anyway sorry for the really long post here people, Just had to say it all I think I covered it.. any help would be appreciate, thanks in advance, ~ Brett (New 05 turbo baja owner)

Hey are you in Austin (ATX)?

Don't really know the answers to your questions re: the Baja. I was running 18psi on stock WRX internals (with an EBC) from time to time with no problems if that helps.

I used a single stage MBC, so I can't comment on the dual stage. My experience was that anything over 13 psi, the engine pukes (it's like hitting the rev limiter).

I've read on this and other forums that a BOV is a waste of money. It apparently doesn't do anything but make cool whooshing sounds. Don't know if that's true but if you do a search, you can read all about it.

I haven't seen a tri-gauge pillar pod for the Baja... If all you're going to do is add a MBC, then all you really need is a boost gauge. Don't get the Subaru model, which doesn't display psi but mA or something like that you have to interpret. It's no big deal once you get used to it, but why bother if you don't have to?

nah, im in west Nj i just dont know how to navigate to my profile to fix it yet

the screen stands for some old terms atx = automatic transmission

2005 baja turbo automatic w/ sportshift , thats what my s/n stands for.

As for the first post, yes that does help, but you drive a wrx i guess? the guy who posted below you says i cant hit over 13 or the motor will bog or something? thats bad news, and yeah ... haha I spent all my lunch break today reading about BOV's and as far as i saw the recirculating system we have is kinda dependant on running the motor properly, so i wont be doing that mod, its not like other cars that dont account for air before it even makes it into the manifold i guess.. reguardless of how it works it confused me, but i did gather it would posibly be a bad idea, and i do want the sound, but its not worth aggrivation to me. I am perfectly fine with just driving it as is, i still hear it to be honest its just silent you hear it recirculate if you really get on it in first or second and let off at max rpm's youll see what i mean if you do this. (sportshift mode of course) then totally let off the gas, its audible to you from in the cabin, but after 2'nd youre going so fast the white noise around you from the wind with windows down just drowns the sound out totally.

As for the MBC to keep on the topic how ever, can i tune it to 13 PSI and not risk messing anything up in my truck or should i just stay stock (is the gain with the $$ or not basically)

hey man i dont know where all the people brought the 13psi from i beleive its random on certain bajas. my 05 goes to 15 psi on all gears stock ... heard that some bajas came that way, dont know why but they did drove others that dont go all the way to 15 so ?????????

is it just me or is the sti look like a huge frog with those headlights...........hey guy if you dont like the bajas go talk (u now what else where) at least i didnt pay close to 10000dlrs more on a vehicle that has the same implant as a baja...........hey u jusst pissed in your diaper go tell your mom to change it for you...

nothing wrong with my boost gauge, its an autometer, has both vac/boost. also tested with digital gauge and exact readings, plus dont you think i would know what im talking about i am a.s.e master certified have a smog liscence and automotive engineer degree... like i said some bajas did come out this way...

Hey ATX, if you're after the BOV sound, do the silencer removal (the reservoir in your passenger front fender well). It takes about five minutes and really increases the intake woosh, the engine growl and the blow off noise. It also seems to add a bit of power but that may be my imagination.
