How hard is it to remove the roof rails entirely?

The video linked earlier in this thread of the dirt track and Forester XTs going around it shows no roof rails at all. I think those Foresters look a lot better.

Example:

Example:
JDM spec' 2014 Subaru Forester XT's don't have roof rails unlike their EyeSight trim counterparts. So basically translating over to USDM, the XT Premium (or just plain XT) trim doesn't come with roof rails for JDM. I wouldn't be so certain about USDM following suit until we get official word. USDM current generation Subaru Foresters come with roof rails all except base models. Even the base XT still has roof rails like the XT touring trim.

If it comes with them, can they be removed? I love the nice clean look of that XT without the rails. Hopefully SOA leaves them off of one of the XT models.

You can for the current generation. I believe there is a section for that in my manual somewhere. For the fourth generation I can't say since we don't have it in the states yet.

I really wish there was a factory roof rail delete option. They are unattractive.

I agree. Although it looks like a few of these XTs do not have the rails, hopefully that's the plan for the U.S. market too. Although I could just delete them and have a body shop fill the holes I guess. Seems like a pain when I should be able to just order one without the stupid rails.

Just found the JDM 2014 Forester Accessory catalog. Some interesting options, the LEDs in the front gills are an accessory. I like the interior light kit, the sliding storage system, sport grill, ground effects kit, complete interior LED kit (way at the bottom) some really nice options, but which ones will the U.S. get?? I don't think we've ever received the full JDM accessory options on U.S. Subarus.

http://www.subaru.jp/accessory/catalog/Forester_Acc.pdf

Wow..didn't even see the STI wheels and front lip option. So nice.

That chin spoiler rocks. Hope it's a USDM option.

Lol, not so sure it's awesome for Colorado's potholes down Federal or for all of the hills and dips in Boulder county.

Btw, article mentioned XT does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and Porsche Cayenne V6 does it in 6.1 for comparison.
Funny how C&D got the manual transmission '04 FXT to 60 in 5.3...just 0.3 behind the Cayenne turbo in the same issue. But no...CVTs are wonderful...Im just a Neanderthal.

Don't mind me...just beating a dead horse here

There isn't a base.

Don't get it confused with the "Roof carrier base" that can be removed by the customer. The rail system on the premiums and up are not meant to be taken off by the customer.

Totally different beast. Smaller, lighter. Put that '04 FXT motor in the 2014 body and I would bet the 0-60 would be slower than the DIT.

Agreed...the new one will carry 300 or so lbs more, but more of the discrepancy has to do with the '04 having shorter gearing. That and the small turbo on the large motor made it a real jackrabbit off the line.

I was just taking an easy potshot at the CVT...which I am well documented as to loathing. I'm sure it will be durable, and efficient, and smooth for cruising. I just find it hopelessly dull and I expect dimwitted for performance driving (I've tested CVTs from Subaru/Honda/Nissan and they all drive me crazy in any "spirited" driving.

I like the integrated exhaust tips in the option rear bumper.

Prepare to order from japanparts. We'll be lucky to get 1/2 the accessories in the JDM brochure.

^^^ This is what I'm afraid of. I don't want to buy from them and pay the $$$$$$$ it takes to import it to the U.S. Please SOA, just give us the full accessory parts bin!

What I don't understand is that they are losing money by not offering these accessories. $1600 for that ground effects kit, "if" you can go from the Yen to dollar on the conversion. That is $1600 that SOA could get out of me, but instead japan parts.com will get from me. Makes no sense.

Yes, there is. There is a base model XT aka the XT Premium. The lower trim of the XT models compared to the XT Touring for USDM or XT EyeSight for JDM.
