Default jdm vs usdm swap?

ok im debating a jdm vs usdm swap its gona b a full driveline and engine swap. im leaning towards jdm because it cheaper and problly easier but if i get a v4/5/6/7 etc. will the sensors be interchagable with usdm sensors or would i be stuck if something craps out

Default 99 2.2 phase 2 questions

I have a 99 2.2 phase 2 motor in an Impreza OB sport that threw a rod out the block. I have a 94 legacy 2.2 motor that I was goimg to swap in untill I started learning the differences between the two. now my question is, can I put the heads and intake on the older block? will there be piston to valve problems? Any help here would be great as i would like to get this done soon.
thanks-

OK, I got the heads off and looking at things closer, the phase 2 motor has flat top pistons that are flush with the deck, while the older one has a dished piston that might stick out past the block a couple mm's. Head volume on the phase 2 motor looks to be less than the older one but can't really tell. Now my concern is if I am going to loose a bunch of compression going to the dished piston. any ideas???

if the combustion chamber is smaller in the head it would go up and i would guess the dished pistons will cost you a little but i would think it will balance out to be faily close to the stock cp ratio in theroy anyways i dont know jack about the phase 2 heads

well I'm going for it- I mocked up the older block with newer heads, the thinner gaskets of the newer motor, all the timing and ran the motor around by hand and everything clears! I am sure that I will fall back on CP: the phase 2 motor was listed 142hp with the older one at 130hp. My guess is that I'll be somewhere around 8.8 to 1-9.4 to 1 CP and probably around the 130hp mark. no biggy though as all it will cost me is the new gasket set! also for 70 bucks I found a G-force power chip, adds 60 hp plenty of torque and increases mileage 3-6 miles. That should suffice!

well, I am going for it. I mocked up the older block with the newer heads, the thinner gaskets from the mewer motor, timed it and ran it around by hand and everthing clears! I figure that the cp ratio will fall a little bit (8.8:1- 9.4:1) with the hp falling off alittle. The phase 2motor listed 142hp while the older listed 130hp, if the head chambers are the same, I figure I will be around the 130hp mark, if the heads are smaller, then it will just be get better. Not bad though for only having to buy the new gasket set! Also I found a G-force power chip that adds 60hp, plenty of torque and increases mileage 3-6 miles. That should suffice!
Thanks for the encouragment.

That G-Force "power chip" is a complete and utter joke. That alone would be the biggest waste of money right there.

A standalone system (like MegaSquirt) probably will be your only choice, but since its an older motor, I'd suggest checking out RS25.com and see what some people who are doing older engine stuff are using. I am not an expert by any means in anything pre-2002. OBDII ftw.
