Default $600 big brake kit for 5x100 subarus

http://www.ctsvbrakeswap.com/frs-brz...er-bracket-kit bracket for the kit

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...eater&refid=12
Parts list for the kit.

Uses 2015 ATS brembos, seems legit. Anyone tried this yet?

It would be important to know the piston sizes for those calipers. If they are wrong it could completely ruin brake feel and bias and maybe make the ebd system not work properly.

this.

though the cheapest big brake upgrade is the LGT brakes, followed by the Z32 calipers with kns adapters/LGT rotors.

that's good if true - just need to know the position (so leverage) of the pistons now.

Sti calipers use two different sized pistons. 40mm and 46 I think?

If the ats pistons are also staggered, you'd need to make sure they end up in the right direction.

There's a picture on the websites Facebook page of the calipers on an 06. It's crazy you can buy those calipers for $124, I wonder how long those will last if the subaru community starts scooping them up.

So much want!

Do we know if guys running a 18 x 9.5 +38 or +40 will need a spacer with this set up?

Also are any of the steel braided lines we use for our cars ok with the ATS calipers?

Contact that FB page, the guys are super responsive but as far as I know, anything the sti brembos will fit these will.

Brake clearance depends on the individual wheel design. Offset and width mean nothing.

Question? Why would you do this over other break applications? The fact that it's cheap or something?

I've asked those guys several times in several of their threads if they've been tested. Haven't heard anything about them actually being tested. For instance are they like the STi Brembos that have pad-knockback on 5x100 hubs? That's the biggest thing I would be worried about.

Interesting. I'm guessing from their description they are using the ATS-V rear 4pot calipers with this mount design. As far as I could find (not a lot of good info that I could find) for piston sizes:
ATS non-V front 4pot fixed Brembo (4) 42mm pistons.
ATS non-V rear 1pot slider (1) 43mm piston.
2016 ATS-V front 6pot fixed Brembo (2) 30mm, (2) 34mm, (2) 38mm pistons.
2016 ATS-V rear 4pot fixed Brembo (4) 30mm pistons.
STI front Brembo caliper (2) 40mm and (2) 46mm pistons. 46mm pistons on the top (nearest bleeder) I am pretty sure.
BRZ front 2pot slider (2) 40mm 38mm pistons.

If my maths still holds up (per caliper): whoops, I messed that up
STI 40/46 = 23235.21 mm2
FHI 40/40 = 20106.19 mm2
BRZ 40/40 slider = 5026.54 mm2
- sizes probably not correct
ATS-V rear 30/30 = 11309.73 mm2
ATS 42/42 = 22167.07 mm2

Corrected (per caliper):
STI 40/46 = 5837.08 mm2
FHI 40/40 = 5026.56 mm2
ATS-V rear 30/30 = 2827.40 mm2
ATS 42/42 = 5541.76 mm2

Not sure how those would exactly compare between each other. Staggered pistons -vs- not staggered. Total surface area difference and what not. Seems like the ATS non-V front caliper is a better match, not sure if it mounts up the same or not. I'm betting their kit has little to none actual braking testing involved at this point. It is more or less a way to bolt up relatively larger and fancy looking fixed 4pot calipers...on the super cheap.
In the end they would have the same limitations as STI Brembos so I expect this is fine for most people installing them for looks. For anyone focused on any serious track braking advantage.....they are looking at entirely different (and more spendy) brake options. Time will tell.

I went ahead and ordered everything today. All told I'm into it for about 630 which got me two: calipers, ss brake lines, pads, pin kit, rotors and mounting brackets. For this price I was only finding beat up STI calipers in various states of load likely needing rebuild/paint and would still need rotors and various small parts. I'm hoping for better pedal feel and heat handling from this kit for light track duty and that I can fit it with my stock 17s. I'll report back after I finish install and get some miles on it

I would doubt it. For the 2005 year, Subaru added a simple 2-point brace/harmonic damper behind the caliper mounting points which fixed the knock back problem. In 2006, they added more material between the caliper mounting points on the actual knuckle. Thats why 2005 sti has longer caliper bolts than 2004, 2006-07.

The bracket for this kit looks like it would perform a similar function.

uh, no, a little extra bracket behind the caliper bolts or a lump sticking off the upright aren't going to do anything to prevent knockback. Those were more of an anti vibration and squeal thing as far as I know.

What DID reduce/eliminate pad knockback for 05 was the bigger hubs and bearings.

So, if you put this kit on a wrx you could definitely run into knockback. A floating 2-piece rotor could help.

Default $600 big brake kit for 5x100 subarus

Indeed the STI knuckle brace and nub are nothing more than NVH features. And a stretch even at that. As said, knock back was decreased with the switch to hub unit bearings.

WRX Boarder, Which exact calipers are you using? The 4pot 30mm pistons or the 42mm pistons?

"Caddy Brembos" as in ATS non-V front 4pot fixed Brembo (4) 42mm pistons?
