Question New/Aftermarket Intake manifold

Has anyone developed a better intake manifold for our WRX's yet?

Forgive me, I've been away form here for a bit (playing with my Camaros). But I remember reading some things about the stock inake manifold flowing up to +/-10% in CFM to each cylinder.

Any options out there yet...?

I use to have a WRX :(

Thumbs up

I`m sure with a flow bench and a grinder you could gasket match and do some mild porting to bring things pretty close.

I haven't had a chance to call them to discuss their design.

Something other than a heat conducting material would be killer. But I would also settle for something that is tuned to flow equally.

I saw a sweet one from APS at SEMA- it has two separate chambers (one sits over each head) and it looks like an "H" from the top. Probably incredibly expensive, but all of there stuff is first class.

I have seen some of the aircraft guys make manifolds. I was considering using the T.B's from a SVX to make a dual T.B. set up.

Check out the tumbler valve delete manifold from aps. Has two injector holes per cylinder. Pretty neat.

I must be missing something, but I'm not seeing a throttle body anywhere on that JUN WRX.

[EDIT]

Each end tank feeds more hefty piping that leads to a pair of prototype surge-tank intake manifolds housing four individual throttle bodies.

is there an advantage to having individual throttle bodies over each cylinder?

...and wouldn't a carbon fiber intake manifold be too weak to handle the heat? especially with all that hot air comming from the turbo? (though it is a sweet idea if it'll work)

I've got a cool pic that I think came from this board almost a year ago. If someone wants it (it's of the APS piece) just send me your email.

It's being developed at Payn Technologies. They are prototyping it right now. In a week or so, I should have some pictures...

We are building an engine with a higher redline and larger turbo so the manifold is being custom tuned to suppliment it...

Okay I will keep an eye out for the photo. I have an RA motor and they like high RPM's so this sounds good. Thanx for the response.

Jorge (riftswrx) had his heads done at Forrester, FYI. He may know more about the intake manifold they are working on.

Penguinking -

Advantages to throttle bodies over each cylinder? Well, BMW does this on their hot motors, and they're getting over 103hp per liter on california 91 with nothing resembling det.

On a naturally aspirated engine.

From the factory, with a warranty, blah, blah, blah.

Imagine if they would just turbocharge that thing...

you can see the throttle bodies on each head - they are at the base of the plenum runners. The evidence of their existence is the little cam that the cable wraps around on the end of the body.
