Forester XT Turbo on 2003 Impreza 2.5RS (bugeyed)
HEY! I know its a hell of a title ^^^
I am just wondering since the engines are basicaly the same has anyone strapped on the Forester XT Turbo kit into a bugeyed 2003 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS? This sounds like an easy conversion all around. Does anyone know where I can buy the kit seperatly, is anyone selling if their forester??? Id really like to do this. ANy info or thoughts. Thank you!

Its not as easy as you think.
These are some of the parts that will more then likely will work and you would need: Exaust manifold, turbo back, crossmember, intake manifold, AC lines, oil lines, radiator modifications, cams, cam gears, crank pully and I am sure there are many more things I am forgetting. Here are just some of the problems. Controling AVCS, you will need to have some type of controler. If your going to use the stock XT turbo ECU you will need to change a whole lot more then what I have listed. You will need the electronic throttle for one. If you decide to go with a aftermarket ecu, you will need a full ecu. Like a Haltec, Motec(iirc) or a Tec2/Tec3. The link plus (a plug and play ecu) won't work without modifications like a reflash from the guys in the land-downunder or some master welding (which hasn't been proven to work yet) These rules also will more then likely go for someone doing the swap with an sti turbo parts, wrx turbo parts and I bet to to be legacy turbo(new ones, we already know how to get the old legacy turbo stuff to work). I know thru a experence. |

well the turbo on the forester is actually the same as the wrx's. So it really wouldn't be a great idea to do that conversion with out a bigger turbo. That is unless you'd be happy with the smaller one. I'd personally go for one that could flow more cfm's than the wrx's since we displace more and boost would kick in sooner which would overlap our already torquey low-end.
Look for a turbo that would be similar size to a STi USDM. That would give you a good indication on ideal cfm for a 2.5L. Transferring the whole shibang over shouldn't be too bad because apparently the 04 wrx borla header fits the 04 forester xt. So (guessing here) a wrx crossmember should work. ^^Like said before using wrx parts would be a cheaper route because of sheer volume. -time for bed- robert |
