With only 11 trails open, and a fractured right hand, I'll probably leave the Podium at home and rip up Ninja Cougar on my Pabst edition Bottlerocket. See you in the line. |

Alright. Twist my rubber arm, I'll take the Podium. I had both bikes on the rack last night and with a couple parts picked up today, they'll both be great rides. Heading off to the LBS in about 20 minutes to pick up those parts, and a new DH lid. My 661 has a deep funk that I can no longer stand. Quote:
Awesome! I'm heading up with a newbie friend, and I don't quite know what to expect from his riding, but I'll drop you guys a line and we'll hook up. I wonder what the GLC drink special is this weekend? |

Newbie question, I don't own a bike at the moment but I have a friend with a KHS Alite 3000 Carbon Fusion that he's only ridden a handful of times. It's barely been used. I think it was manufactured in 2008 or 2009. MRSP is $1569 and he's thinking of selling it for about $300 - $450, we haven't agreed on a price yet.
I've been riding it for a couple days now as a 'test drive' and it feels a little too 'lean back' and my arms are always fully extended as if I'm riding a chopper. Do you think it's too big? it's a 17" frame and I'm about 5'7". Is this a good deal? Also the seat hurts my ass http://www.khsbicycles.com/04_alite_3000_08.htm Or should I just go get a sub $500 all purpose mountain bike from a store? |

The Shimano XT shadow derailleur is a high-end piece of gear. Good, durable shifting is critical if you want to enjoy riding. Fork, brakes, tires, wheels and just about everything else look to be reliable as well. If you spent $500 on a new bike, you'd get a tiny fraction of what you'd be getting on this deal. If you're 5'7, you're just on the border between small and medium for most bike makers. 17" is the medium for this model, I think. You feel stretched out probably because the seatpost has a setback perch (new seatpost $35-80) and the stem's way too long (new stem $35-60). Post a side-on pic of yourself riding it. If it's way too big, we'll be able to tell pretty quick. Modern bikes are starting to adopt a more forward seating position which you can get with a new post and by sliding the seat forward. They're also all switching to much shorter stems and wider bars for stability while still keeping your weight forward. If I were you, I'd buy it in a second (as long as all the parts are original, exactly as spec'd on the website, and are in full, perfect working order). Then spend $150 on a seatpost, short stem, and wider handlebars. I think you'll quite like it. But DON'T buy a $500 new bike. It just won't have any components that aren't junk... Oh, and all bike seats hurt your ass. Last edited by timbits; 05-19-2012 at 04:49 PM. |

Went up to Squamish and did 3 laps on Full Nelson yesterday. The condition was great and not that many people either
Then went riding at Watershed in the rain and that was fun too |

What a crazy weekend though.
I really regretted not getting out to ride with you guys on Friday. I should have known better though, as this was what the locals call the "Surrey" weekend. It was a bit of a rough one..... we hit a roadblock on the drive up. At 2:30pm. I should have known then. Anyway, rode my junk off on Saturday. The Knolly took a bit to get used to, and I had to make some changes to the bar/stem combo. What a fast bike though. I rented my buddy a Norco Auruum and he loved it. It really is a nice bike, with a really active suspension. Sunday we hit the hill until the rain pushed us back. I rode the Bottlerocket, and felt right at home. I guess I've ridden that bike so much over the last two years that it feels like an old friend. I may not have been as fast on the BR, but the second the tires left the ground it felt much more confident than my Knolly. We got invited to a "white couch" party on Saturday. We were ready to go too, until someone blabbed that these parties tend to turn into cocaine fueled orgies. I'm too old for that isht. Sunday was jagerbomb night at the longhorn. And today it's back to normal life. meh. |
