Why are we talking about how much boost we hit in 5th gear?

So people can Brag on the forums... Why else? People that actualy know anything means that this whole Psi vs rpm thing is complete hogwash. Its like a shop that take there typical and not special Wheel hp numbers or Hub hp numbers and inflate them with some made up figure and call it "crank hp"... when in reality they dont use an engine dyno or own one... lol. Like one well known but not well liked shop owner told me on the phone a year or so ago.. "No matter what, The people will remember the highest hp number, It makes no difference if its wheel, crank or made up, They will remember the highest number.. So I always have the highest number.. Chuckle... giggle.. hahaha"

See, Years back in 2001 when some of us had WRX's brand new to the states, all we had was Td04's that bolted on. Then came the VF22. I was one of the first to have one in early 02. I got lucky and found one in the states when NOBODY else stocked them. People started buying them and comparing a Td04 to a VF22 and sure enough the 22 was "laggy". It was.. In comparison to the only other turbo we had.. The tiny stocker. That reputation lasted even though we had what 20-30 "turbos of the week" come and go. I remember the days when I got a PE1820 and thought it was HUGE, people called me crazy!.. Now thats a tiny little snail Lol.. If anyone wants to see what lag is you can ride in my car.. Its def got lag! Like no boost at 3k rpm. Heck..I was seeing 14 psi by 4500 rpm yesterday in 4th. But at the same time I will show you what six to seven hundred horsepower feels like I have it for 3000 rpm or so. But I have a close ratio box that drops only 1000 rpm or less per gear change. Making this short power band more then usable.

I just like how he is going 70+ in a residential neighborhood in the afternoon. Great place to test it. Panache. Least we know his turbo doesn't spool at 12 mph.

that speed is in km/h, i believe.

fwiw, here are actual LOG numbers from my DTEC, vs. all these sketchy snapshots. tachs lie and lag behind reality. also, as other have noted, 5th gear pulls don't represent reality.

3rd gear pull from 2k or so, RA gears, FMIC, VF34, 18 psi target:

2755 rpm, 6.3 psi
3046 rpm, 8.0 psi
3121 rpm, 10.2 psi
3270 rpm, 12.4 psi
3360 rpm, 13.6 psi
3448 rpm, 14.3 psi
3564 rpm, 17.5 psi
3652 rpm, 18.0 psi

So, whay are we talking about how much boost we make at 3,000 rpm in 4th gear.....

Prediction: Davenow will attack me in a reply in order to try and save face.

Take it easy, Davenow, I'm definetely a VF22 fan. Had one, loved it, but went bigger. Besides, I was not addressing your post on its own. More the entire thread.

Thanks for those numbers. My VF22 isn't that far behind, we are talking maybee 1 PSI in the same RPM range. "We" have known that they were similar turbos for a while anyway.
