Anyone else heading to the event? Looking for a carpool or maybe to share a room.

I am driving up Friday morning and I have reserved a room. One of the beds may be available.

Friday morning? Doesn't the event start on Saturday? Why so early?

Practice starts and practice runs on Friday.

It's helpful to get used to the start tree.

Sully is righ. I have never done a drag race start and want to find out how this works before it counts. Pratice starts around 2 or 3 if I recall and the drive is probably about 5 hours. Throw in lunch and the obligatory jerky purchase in Centerville and Friday morning it is.

So what's the deal for Pro-Solos as regards licensing/membership?.. I mean, I'm an SCCA member (fwiw), but I have no such credentials as a 'Pro' license ( ha!.. yeah, right! )... how does that work? I thought I recalled reading once (long ago) that there was something about a pro-license?.. so I never gave this stuff much of a 2nd thought (figuring I'd never qualify for such a license, I mean).

I'm only basing this on the notion that the thing is called a 'Pro' Solo. If that's just a cool-sounding-name thing, and you don't need a special license, then that's all fine and dandy. One day (probably not this one), I would really dig giving that a go as I like the concept of the drag-race start and 'racing against someone' in real-time.

As far as I know it works the same as a National Tour event. You pays your money and you takes your runs. And maybe you gets a license after your second event. Here is the text from the SCCA website:

The ProSolo NationalSeries provides national-level competition in a series structure using all of the regular national Solo classes. While entrants must be SCCA members, a ProSolo license is not required until their second ProSolo event of the season, when they officially become part of the ProSolo NationalSeries Championship series.

Are you doing something exciting on the weekend of the 20th?

Ah!.. I see. You eventually have to get a license, but not at the first go-round. I must've misunderstood that the first time I read about this 'back when'.

Well, I -should- be working on the rx7 project car every free weekend, and as such, I expect the 20th will be no different. If there's another one this year on a 'free' weekend, then I'll plan ahead for it. It looks to be a lot of fun!

McRee shop days and RX-7s? I don't quite see how somebody would take wrenching on a car over driving one

With kids getting away for the weekend is just really hard! I would love to race it, but shop day means a babysitter for a day and not a weekend.

I know, I know... but there's a lot that needs to be done before the challenge, and it ain't going to assemble itself
