If you're in winders, a handy shortcut combo is Windows-Pause/Break.

I'm pretty sure it locks your scroll, but could be wrong.

It lets you scroll using the arrow keys, more useful in the DOS days.

a lot of the keys on out "modern" keyboards are throwbacks to older days when they had real, meaningful, dedicated functions... escape, sysrq, scrrlk, pause/break... days when computers could only run one process at a time.

Scroll lock locks the scroll, duh! When the computers booting and you press it, it should freeze the screen.

SysRq is for Unixes. Like SysRq-Ctrl-Left Shift and S, R, B do stuff... I dont remember. I havent used Solaris/Unix in a while.

Scroll Lock is also useful in Excel, it allows you to scroll down the spreadsheet without leaving the current cell.
