Default 97 legacy gt needs new powertrain

A rod berring went out in my 97 legacy gt. I want to keep the car but upgrade the motor. Would an 05 legacy be any easyer to swap than an sti. I know it would be easyer to find a legacy clip than sti.

I think the difficulty will be about the same.

I don't know your reasoning for thinking it would be easier to find a new Legacy clip than a STI.

There are far more kiddies rolling/tottalling STI's than Forester XT's or Legacy GT's.

It's a parts smorgasborg as far as STI parts are concerned, in my opinion. Check the OT or general forum for "I wrecked my STI" threads.

You should first determine how much you want to spend.

Probably easier to find an STI drivetrain.

Difficulty of swap is similar with any engine whether it be the 2.5GT, STI, FXT...

...only one that might be kinda easier is a baja-t(if you're a BE/BH guy), but I'm sure theres plenty of work to be done in that case too.

I dont want to spend to much over 6 grand. i live in iowa unfortunatly so its going to be a little hard to find a swap(ford chevy and dodge pickups with redneck banners rule the road) . unless I drive a long way to pick one up.

If you don't want to spend over $6k, a STI swap may not be possible, especialy if you want to do a full STI drivetrain.
