Will the 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS muffler fit a Y2K Legacy wagon?

It was my girlfriend's idea (she owns the Outback). When i told her I was going to change my RS's exhaust she asked if my old muffler would fit in the Outback. She dosen't like the way that bended one looks (neither do I). But she is worried that the tip might be to close to the bumper and burn it or something. (She is an engineer she notices this sort of stuff).

Yeah, that is the first thing I thought when I looked under the back bumper: if I put a straight-out pipe on, it may hit the bumper. (Hmm... I am an engineer too!
)I see what you are talking about now... I would probably have to actually see the replacement to know how it would fit, and if it would need to be "mounted lower" to give enough clearance on top... It's most likely not fit on your car. The Impreza has a smaller wheel base, and as you know, the Legacy is a lot longer. so if you were to install a Impreza Exhaust, it would be too short. Yes, you may be able to force it on, but the mounting is going to be so off, you're going to get lot's of rattling noices, or in worst cases, your pipe may come off if you're not careful. I have a Legacy Wagon Apexi system on my GT sedan, it's still kinda off. Unless your're very proficient in Metallurgy, I recommend you wait for something that would fit your car.

And one more thing, Impreza and Legacies are two different type of cars. Kinda like Apples and Oranges... If you're looking at something like the Legacy Outback, then it would make more sense. But even that, there are little brackets and stuff under the car that is made specifically for that model. I actually thought about getting the bumper cover of the Outback, and swapping it. But actually, I am looking into possibly getting the Japanese bumper from Japan. Japanese and US regulations are different. The Japanese models have a smaller bumper. It doesn't stick out as much. I am going over there around March.

2K Legacy has a "hidden" exhaust pipe which bends down at the rear bumper. A straight pipe is going to be up against the bumer and probably will look like crap.
As for putting an impreza muffler on a legacy, the hangers and everything are probably way off, since the cars are sooo different. Then add the outback curve into the equation and you are better off waiting til they come out with one for the OB. Side note, I'm now trying to decide between an 2k OB Limited v. 2K GT Wagon. Any ideas? -mike ------------------ Paisan '97 Rodeo @ 129mph soon to be '00 Legacy GT Limited '91 Escort Crap Parents '97 Legacy L |

My 2yen says go with the GT, but I am biased. I like the feel of the lower and stiffer ride. Fun and Fast. BUT: you are replacing your rodeo, you may want to go with the OB for the higher/bouncier ride. Of course that is if you want to stick with the SUV-type feel, I mean, hey, that *is* the marketing strategy for the OB. NO! I'm on my second exhaust system now. The first was a generic stainless A&H trashcan style muffler that we cut the tip off and put on a turn down. Good performance but too loud! The new one is a Dyno Max much quiter but the low end is not as snappy. Might just go back to the stock untill SOA comes out with their's.

Paisan,
I'm with Andy on this one. Go with the GT. With it you get better looks, better handling, and exclusivity. - Eric ------------------ '98 2.5 GT Wagon lanam@vei.net |

Oh... BTW - If you got with a GT, you'll have to order. I talked to the dealer that I got mine from, and they are pretty much sold out. *very* popular and very understocked.
But I still say get a GT... ![]() A ------------------ Andy Ressa Seattle, WA MY00 GT Wagon, Timberline Green Pearl. Mods: Clifford Alarm; Temporary License in back window. |
