Default 04 STI - UTEC or AP?

Is it worth it to get rid of my UTEC to get an Accessport? Has anybody here gone from one to the other? I've heard the AP can 1) slightly change your intake timing and 2) that the STIs throttle plate closes slightly at WOT/redline? which the AP can correct??? Any input on that last one?

You can use both together, but I would go with AP if you decide on one over the other. Do a search on here to find the advantages of each, it has been discussed many times.

AP FTW, you can tune idle and avcs with ST. It does everything ecutek can do but is user tunable. I have had AP, UTEC and ECUTEK on my STi and I regret selling the AP/ST. But I will get hydra next.

I am NOT looking to do any of my own tuning. Why would I want to use both together? OK,So the AP CAN adjust the intake cam timing on my USDM STI? What about my other question about the throttle plate closing? Thanks guys!

Even the free flashing software on openECU.org can control the tables for cam timing and throttle plate close as you approach redline. Some guy on there just made those changes to his STI tune.

Can the software on openecu be used in conjunction with either ecu?

If you're not planning on doing your own tuning, get the AP, provided there are protuners in the area.

I don't understand your question. Actually, I think you don't understand the what the software on openecu.org does. It's software that allows tuning of the factory ECU. Just like EcuTek and AccessECU(Cobb's stuff). The AP just allows for map changing without having to hook up a laptop to your car. Either way you go it'll be way better then the UTEC stuff. If you're not too savvy with PCs and your car I'd stick with a Cobb AP instead. If you don't have a ProTuner shop arround you, you could always run PDXTuning OTS maps.
