turbocharging a 98 2.2 L Impreza

I want to turbocharge my 1998 2.2 L Impreza but I'm doing some research first... First of all who makes the best turbocharger for value for the 2.2? Secondly what kind of damage am I expecting to the motor? Will it shorten it's life considerably? Am I wasting my money trying to make the 2.2 faster? Should I just go out and buy a 2.5 (even though I don't have the cash)? Also any comments from anyone who has turbocharged a 2.2 L will be appreciated. Actually ANY info on this would be appreciated...
