Default How do you open forward opening hoods and how to change bulbs on headlights of cars t

hat have their headlights inside their fenders like the PT Cruiser? I've always been curious...
EXAMPLES:

how do you open those? Is the latch in the back or...??

Also how do ppl change the headlight bulbs out of these type of cars, where the hood opening is far from the housings and the housings are "buried" in the fenders?? I doubt there's any space to stick your hand all the way inside...

just curious... TIA.

Knowing Chrysler, you probably have to remove the exhaust system, roll down the passenger window, and turn the steering wheel fully to the left. Probably not too far fetched considering the horror stories I've heard about just changing the battery on Chrysler cars.

On my old car, the front hood opened like that. There's no safety catch. So as soon as you pop release it, you just get out of the car and lift it up. Same on that Vette you posted. Changing the headlights is not too bad. THe hoods usually raise up enough to have room to get at the headlights.

^ hmm icic that's weird cuz I thought all cars have a secondary hood latch...
Look at the PT Cruiser pic, there is no way you can reach from the hood opening all the way down to the headlights are...
my guess is you have to take off the bumper to access the headlight bulbs/wiring or the wheelwell liner...

well, with hoods, there is the wind force wanting to open the hood. with reverse hoods, the wind is pushing down on the end of the hood near the windshield, so there isn't a secondary release. on my roommates '02 vette, he pops it inside the cabin, and it just opens.

Those hoods don't have a secondary latch because where the heck are they going to go? If you're driving, and you pop the hood, the wind will keep the stupid thing closed. Very simple.

As far as the headlights in the fenderwells, you do know that most fenderwell liners can be removed, right? My old Stratus had the battery pretty much tucked in the front bumper. You had to take off the driver-side (I think) wheel and pull out the fender liner to get to it. Same idea with the headlights. Damn n00b with the no thinking.

My dad had a car with a forward opening hood (a buick I think it was). I don't remember there being a secondary release, but you had to go to the front of the car, pull the hood up and towards you slightly, then lift it near the windshield.
