Default Looking to buy a WRX (what to look for)

Tons of WRX's available for sale in my area and i'm looking to buy one :P

I was just curious, when I look at used WRX's (2002-2005) is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
(i.e. problem areas)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

#1...if you can get an 06' for like 22 out the door, go for that...but if your getting a good deal on any 02-05 wrx's, just stay away from modded wrx's. most likely they've been abused a lot...thats all i can think of. im sure other ppl will chime in on this

I suggest applying a quick burst of pressure to the tire area with your foot. While doing this it’s a good idea to say “that’s a mighty fine auto-mo-bile”

Check the underbody of the car. You can tell a lot of things by looking there. Bring a trusted mechanic before you purchase the vehicle. Run a carfax report. And like these guys said, if its modded, stay away from it. Even if its just an aftermarket exhaust, chances are the driver didn't drive it gently.

Good luck!

There are soooooo many older guys in my area that drive them. That's how I purchased my '03 WRX and now my '05 STI

Really the test drive is always important, leave your emotions aside (hard I know cuz they are fun to drive)....pay close attention to how well it goes in gear, especially for '02-'03 just cuz they are older and have had more opportunites for someone to grind gears, mistreat, etc.

Ninja Edit: If you haven't driven them before 1st is always a biyatch to downshift to, have to be under 10mph

hey if you get one under 60k, you can always unmod it or even if its stock, its under warranty still so, always a good try to run it through, if something goes wrong.

I'm guessing from your name that you're from the Great White North.. Only buy an early '02 if you can verify that it's had the Cold Weather Gas leak fix performed. In sub zero temperatures, the first batch of WRXs in NA would leak gas from the fuel rails onto the top of the block.
