Cool 2000 GT Limited

They had a white one parked in front of the dealer today. I had never really gotten a good look at a MY00 GT before. It was SWEET. I was having second thoughts about buying an RS when it occurred to me the lease on my wife's Outback is up around the same time the 6cyl is supposed to arrive. Cool.

I took my spankin' new MY00 GT out and put about 80 "hot miles" on it trying to keep up with Mike (Basshead)... not that I *couldn't* keep up, I want to keep the engine within break-in limits, but still running 35-50mph around marked 15mph turns (Mike has some *very* twisty roads he took me on.)

I have a hard time imagining what a 6-cyl would do, the 2.5 Phase II puts out *so much* torque... -wiping up drool-

Randy,
Glad to hear the MY00 is strong enough, even though it is heavier than the RS. How do the DTRL work on it? I posted this on the PIAA posting but no one got back to me. Do they use the parking lights? or white headlights? also if you put on your parking lights does it turn off the headlight if the headlight is used for the DTRL. Thanks.

I was thinking about maybe taking one of the MY00 for a test spin while my 99GT is getting the master brake cylinder replaced. After reading this I might pass because I'll be pissed off at how much torque the new engine has. I'll just keep telling myself that in a couple of years I'll upgrade to a turbo Impreza or go with the flat 6 Legacy. Grr..

Mike -

The DTRLs come on when you put down the handbrake. I have not actually looked, but it seems to use the low beam headlights (at least that is what it looks like). When you flip on the headlights (for normal night driving, the parking lights and the instument gauges come on (as well as the fog lights, which are switched, but I'll be leaving the switch on ) And of course the fogs go off when the high beams go on.

Euro -

Yes, I have been running the engine hard, but "within the specs" -cough- The manual says 4000rpm/65mph... I have been good at keeping it under 4500rpm/70mph. I need to get some good gas in it and really work it, but I don't plan on coddling the engine...

Yeah - really low member numbers.... I joined before I got my 00 Legacy, and before the WRX explosion of 01/02

Neat to look at the opinions back then of the new 00, and compare it to now's 05 launch
