Question Car Pulling Off Road !

Hi board Im a newbie to Subarus ,

Just Picked up a 2000 Gt Limited Legacy for $9800 drove 4 hrs one way to get it Noticed it pulling then not pulling durring test drive ..

Its not the alinement because it dont do it all the time , Its not the tires for the same reason IMO .... On the way home at 85 MPH you could let go of the steering wheel and it would go perfectly strait then if you waited about 10 mins or so and let go again it would go to the left quite violently This comes and goes and at all speeds and seems to be more to the left but it has took off the the right a few times , Ive been reading up a little and I dont think its the memory steer thing you guys talk about ???

I think its the AWD going haywire like when it pulls to the left the right front quit driving or something ..

Other times its perfect and all tires will spin when on ruff terrain

Any leads as to where to look or tell my local dealer what may be the problem would be real cool of you guys

Thanks

DM

Grammar is a bit

But could it just be that particular road you were on/wind conditions?

Have you tried this on multiple different roads to ensure there is an actual problem with the car?

its seems like its toe or camber issue, small road inperfection throws it off the balance and forces to one side. I would do quick alignment check to rull out the whole suspension so you can focus more on mechanical parts. Also check all the rubber boots on all CV joints to make sure none of em are damages and stuff got lodged making it work harder, cause that would cause torque pull. Quick differential fluid check could tell you few things as well. You know, dirty fluid or with metal flakes - seriously someting wrong, etc..

My bet is that it's the alignment. The car is pulling because the road changes camber, or ruts are present, etc, etc. I had pretty aggressive camber on my RS a few years back and it drove find on most roads but when there were camber changes in the road the car would take off to one direction. Is was difficult to keep the car straight on certain sections of road.

I find that its because of the semi's on the roads that build up ruts in the roads.. soemtimes the car will pull to a side pending on what side of the rut you're on. Ever try going to a parking lot with a long stretch? or perhaps a newly paved road ?

AWD doesn't regulate power between the right and left wheels, only the front and back, it's not your AWD. Unless it's torque bind maybe

I would say suspension camber issue, if not the changing conditions on the roads, which would make it tires.

Sounds like when I was driving my Toyota Carina II (not sold in North America) down the M40 just heading down the hill into Oxfordshire. I was driving along normally and a sudden wind gust hit me and blew me into the next lane. It took about 1/2 a second and suddenly I wasn't in the middle lane anymore.

Wind can do alot to a car, as can the road Camber. Check your alignment but likely it is other things. Remember Subaru's and Toyota's are light bulky cars.

yeah, it took me a while to read through that post too. The guy has a sincere question, but some people don't understand how important grammar is in communication. I've seen some posts (this one really wasn't too bad, just slow reading) on other forums where you just can't follow what the kid was saying at all...
