Default Looking for video of WRX crash at the Olympus Rally. Photos inside.

Just looking for the video of the crash that involved the blue WRX below. I was in the perfect spot to see it but moved just before it happened. Luckily no one was injured.

Apparently it was a pretty violent crash and the fuel cell inside the car was leaking afterwards.

^^ seriously-- like an amputated leg!

Doh! That is Mike Goodwin's car. Hadn't seen or heard that he had crashed. And he was having such a good run this weekend. Here's one I got of him from last night...

It was car 285, Mike Goodwin. I was crewing for them. Mike and Debbie are both fine, just a little bruised. It was a 6 left tightens to 5- into a 4 right(I believe) into a 2 left. Second time through the stage. He set it up the same as last time but it just washed out. Could have been from the light rain we got between the first and second pass, who knows. That thing was a beast to drag onto the trailer. Yes, he did puncture the stock fuel cell, but we only had around 8-10 gallons left in it so it bled out pretty quickly. What sucks is that he was leading PGT national and regional at the time. Good thing is all are ok. We'll see just how much it will cost to put it all back together before September.

Edit-I know of at least 4 videos taken of the crash. I'm sure at least 1 will make it to special stage. I watched 1 of them, and it was insane. He looked to be 20ft. in the air, nose down.

We strolled into Vancouver about an hour ago (11:30pm), and that car was the first trailer'ed car we came across leaving the Casino. I saw the damage after that stage had cleared, but it looked way worse once it was on the trailer going down the highway. Gave the driver a friendly honk and went about our speed limit+5 cruising speed in the bright green neon.

I'll have the two shots Amanda and I took with our cameras up in a while. Just editing them to show the event as clearly as possible.

Again, I was glad to see Mike and Debbie get out of the car within the first minute. Seeing a car pirouette on it's front bumper like that is sensational, but scary, too!

I was in the perfect location to view the crash but moved to another part of the corner and ended up missing it... but just hearing the crash was enough to know it was going to be nasty. Glad to see they were okay and joking about it not too long afterwards.

That was Sweetwater Stage wasn't it? If so, the same thing happened on that stage about three years ago. It looks like the same spot.

4.33 miles into Stillwater... 6L > 5- into 4R & 2L It was a very fast section of the stage with lots of loose gravel.

Beings this is about my car ,I guess I should type in some kind of a response.first ,I want to say thanks for all the help we got after the crash,(EMT,course workers, service crew, and the sweep workers to get it on the trailer, and everyone else that was there that offered help.)
As for me and my co-driver,I am still pretty sore on my side where we came down on the stump and pushed the center console into my lower ribcage.Co-driver(Debbie) bit her tounge on the end and a little bruising on her chin.as for the car it is a different story. Most damage was caused when landing (or bouncing) off the big stump which really pushed the floor up.Frontend was pretty minor also the rear when compared to the underside.
Ryan was correct on the where it happen and yes it was a L6 double tightens to a L5- into a R4 into a L2.Came into the L6 at about 80 ,was downshifting into third to set up for the L5-.Had about the same speed and line as we ran that stage earlier in the day. There was very little of rain that had come down so that could have been a factor, but the car just kept drifting out, didn't hit the brakes or anything as I thought it would drive out of it.and the rest the pictures tell the story.Did though start the car back up and try to drive it out just thinking it was high centered and not broke.
A couple of people looked the car over well and it is going to be a major ,maybe too major of a fix.So now comes the realization of trying to either find another body to build or jump out of the hobby. So now I get to figure out how much to get a new body or how much I can get out of this one and quit for a while ,or longer.
Any ideas or offers will be considered, and again thanks to everyone who had a hand in this.
Mike..

You can't get out of the sport Mike! Without you, who is Jamie going to have to chase in PGT?

If there's anything I can do to help you, you know I will.

Mike,

Don't quit, your a great driver man.

Cut the floor outta that thing and have a new one put in.

Like I said last night, talk to John Subaru. I know you have his number on speed dial.

Get the seats out of the car and take a sledge hammer to that floor!

Just don't give up Mike. You have options and you have the rally family to back you up. If you put the call out on nasioc, the ORG list and SStage for a rally family worker party at your house next weekend I bet you would have a bunch of us out there. I would come, Teresa and Cara would come. Just don't give up.

I'll start by donating new harnesses to the cause (the rulebook says you need them now since you had a major impact).

Best regards,

Charles Buren
