I'm gonna be doing pretty much the same thing soon. I just picked up an 07 STI HU complete with the ash tray aux port setup. I already have the upgraded speaker system with sub in my 04 WRX and was worried about my under seat sub still connecting sine I keep reading posts saying the 07 HU drops the amplififed sub connection but I guess from reading what you've done everything should be OK........

See the two subwoofer posts in the "Stock HU" thread and the link to the thread about modifying the subwoofer T-harness to work with radios that lack the sub output. That trick also applies when you want to use your factory sub with an aftermarket radio. |

Stock head unit information -- pin-outs, subwoofer, aux inputs, and moreEach subwoofer cable is a "T" — it has both male and female connectors and installs between the car's harness and the radio. So you can plug two subwoofers in a chain between the car and the radio. Other people have done this without any problems. As for the bracket, many people have been able to bend the bracket to work under the opposite seat. Others have simply used heavy Velcro to secure the sub to the carpet. The bracket may be available by itself as a replacement part. Check with the online sellers such as SubaruGenuineParts.com . |

Any difference (front & rear) besides additional tweeters in regular WRX?

I picked up an 07 radio with aux input and the Sirius tuner package and I've run into a few problems trying to install them. First I have no clue where the hell to put the aux input assembly....it doesn't seem like it will fit anywhere in the car without some handy Dremel work. Second, there appears to be no possible way to install the radio with the Sirius receiver attached to it. It appears to be physically impossible to fit it in the dash once it's connected to the bracket and the radio. Anyone else been here and done this?

^Where on the center console?^
I don't really see a spot big enough to mount it. Right now, I have the piece hanging under my dash board out of sight with an aux line running to the center console. I' interested to see what others have done. I also still haven't figured out how I'm gonna mount the Sirius tuner. I think I might just resell it and buy a portable tuner anyway. |

Since the 07 cd-changer has a CeNet interface (for the Sirius tuner) can that be used to attach other CeNet devices, such as an ipod? Clarion has a couple of adaptors - the CCA-IPOD and the EA1251B - do either of them work with the stereo?

Does your car not still have the plug? If you have that, you can identify the wires by looking at the pin numbers on the plug and then looking up the functions on my wiring table — the pin function/assignments have not changed. If you do that, let us know which, if any, of the wire colors changed. |

Worst case, the Sirius module doesn't have to actually be attached to the radio. |

They did determine that the connector, pin-out, and interconnect cable are all the same on Subaru vs. non-Subaru CeNET devices. Clarion uses rolling-code encryption on the CeNET bus, so it appears that Subaru devices are programmed to talk only to each other. |

Does anyone have info on the rear of an '08 nav unit? It cannot be hooked up to the factory ipod adapter so i assume it's different than the stock headunit.

It uses the old 14-pin harness as previous model years for speakers, power, illumination, etc. (white connector in upper-left corner, above the fan). Looks like it also has the new 20-pin connector that some other 2008 Subarus use for speakers and power (white, in upper-right corner). So this radio could be installed in cars that use either harness (wrong). The 2008 non-Navi HU only has the new connector. See this thread for more pics: The 1st comprehensive 2008 impreza dash & radio removal guide ADDED: The other white connector has 24 pins and includes nav-related wires. See the bottom of this post for a better pic. They've dropped the CeNET connector, which was where the iPod adaptor (as well as a Sirius or XM satellite receiver) connects on previous models. The square white 8-pin connector at the far right appears to be the same type that has the Aux input, similar to recent earlier models. It may also include pins for remote buttons on the steering wheel. That may be your best bet to connect an iPod. ADDED: The wires for Aux-in, SWC, and CAN data bus are on the white 24-pin connector. I think that the black connector at the top center is a 20-pin for the Nav and Sat functions. Information is scarce at this point because the car is so new, but I'm still looking. UPDATED: The larger black socket is for an external CD changer. Last edited by SVXdc; 03-16-2009 at 01:02 AM. |

tnx for your reply. do you know which wire needs to be grounded on the HU to allow the nav to be operable while in motion? In another thread, a gray wire is identified inn the older subarus, but i do not see gray on the list in the thread you referred to.

I have all the info here: http://www.webjogger.com/WRX/2008WRX/08wrxnav.htm And yes, The larger black connector connects to the stock satellite radio(s) |

Also, the 07 Sirius receiver will not plug and play in the 08. 07 Sirius receivers will only work on 07 radios. It wasn't an option prior to 07 and Subaru changed the connector in 08.

I just found out, the 2008 Navigation Unit will also play MP3 DVDs!! Just load up a DVD with all your MP3s and off you go. I tested with DVD-R media packed to the top with MP3s, and it works great!! Thats about 4.5GB of music. I have not tested DL DVDs like this, but in theory, that would work as well, as most video DVDs are dual layer, so I think it would read it. That's like 9GB of music... And they want to sell an iPod adaptor for how much??!!??!! HA!

Any idea why the right channel would be out? I have a 98 Legacy GT wagon. I tried swapping HU's out and no change. Speakers are all connected

Is it possible to plug in my HD radio tuner i bought instead of the sirius reciever? I just need to hook up the left and right rca outputs to the stock 07 wrx stereo so that I can push the SAT button to listen to HD radio. Is this possible?
