Post Intercooler for 2.2L Turbo

I have asked my dad to search for intercooler of ver II or before impreza WRX in hong kong salvage yards. I was wondering if only the STi version II or before intercooler would fit. What about the normal WRXs that are not STi versions? would those also fit? and what model year of those WRX intercooler would fit.. thanks..

my dad says its kinda hard to find STi ver I and II intercooler now in HK salvage yards.

Any 93-96 WRX intercooler will fit, it does not have to be an STi. And tell him to make sure he gets the intercooler pipe as well. You'll need it.

To Prostho,
Hi I might have a used top mount intercooler and custom piping for sale. Gotta decide how much it is worth/what I can get. Also might have some other performance goodies for sale.

Don't go with STi intercooler, its little thicker then the stock one.
The 93-96(no later then Ver.III intercooler) will perfectly fits to the engine bay just have to put downt he A/C hose and the igniter!
you could check on the pic. of my car to see how to install it!! http://216.242.153.40/MembersList/Us.../Legacy4_1.jpg

GH: I'll take second dibs on that IC setup, i'm dying for one to put on mine though i might have a line on a new WRX intercooler as soon as these guys get their cars delivered.

These guys are nuts, the IC, Turbo and other bits are going to be flying off of them within a week!

Yep, just looking for a normal WRX intercooler from Ver.I-Ver.III is fine! Don't forget to get the pipping from the turbo to the intercooler also the hose from intercooler to engine!! If you don't get those hoses and pipe, its very hard to find it in Canada!

Hey, do u guys still have Cats on your cars?

i plan to get a Borla exhaust and getting custom piping for it... but don't know if i should get a high flow cat with it, or should just put back in the stock system when its time for emmsions test..

also, Shik, u have the rallispec downpipe right? does that require u to use a different piping for the exahust than stock?? and do u use a cat with that?

Shik's Rallispec totally replaces the stock cat and is basically one large pipe from the turbo to the muffler.

I'd recommend running a hi-flow cat if you have to have emissions done. It's better to go in and have it pass then fail and have them look for problems and find you're missing the cat.

Depending on how strict your state is, you could probably get away with at least replacing the stock with a hi-flow later down the exhaust.

Whoa... it must be a pretty long pipe from the turbo down to the middle of the car where the cat used to be.....

any reccomendations on high flow cats? which brand or manufacturer?

also, do we have two cats on our car? one right after the turbo, and one around the middle of the car....

We only have one cat, the other box down there should be just a resonator to help quiet things down.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about Random Tech's hi-flow cats.

So u mean the only cat we have is the one right after the turbo, AKA at turbo downpipe?

Prostho, as dave mentioned, everything was custom made from the chaps at RalliSpec, so no, the stock mid-pipe would not have bolted up to the downpipe. The exhaust was actually 3 pieces, just like the stock unit( downpipe, mid-pipe, muffler section). I did have a hi-flow cat on it, but took it off because it absorbed too much sound . FWIW, I got absolutely zero performance gains from taking the hi-flow cat off, so I strongly recommend using one( there will be one, and only one, on my WRX when the time comes).

thanks shik.. i guess its worth getting around hi flow cat for around $150 then getting a ticket that cost $450CAD if i get caught by the cops! hehe... arggh... i hate the emmisions test!!

i will ask my local mechanic to see if they could custom make a turbo downpipe for me because i know they could make custom exahust piping for NA cars.. but never asked them about turbo downpipes..

Make sure the intercooler is set into the car little bit off angle, and it should be single inlet from the turbo to the intercooler, because the Ver4- Ver6 intercooler are dual inlet from turbo to intercooler
If its dual inlet and set in rectangler then it WON'T fits to 91-94 Legacy turbo!!!
Also the STi is thicker then Standard WRX intercooler that may make it pop up from the engine bay and you may not close your hood!

To Prostho,
Yes I am from Vancouver BC, You saw my engine bay about a month ago. I still don't really know how much to ask but I have other parts as well.... the intercooler kit has custom piping from the air filter (cone style) to turbo inlet and from the exhaust side to intercooler (basically entire intake is changed) It also has a greddy bov. Also will have, unorthodox pulley, suspension, wheels, magnacore wires etc. Talk to you later.
