Default WRX Look Gauges MadDad(TM) Clarity V2 Rx's

Hey gang,

We've been working on these puppies for a while now and finally MadDad(TM) V2 Rx series WRX Look gauges will be arriving at our door later this week. Some of you have no doubt been following some of our other threads and already now how awesome these gauge are and the sick value they represent. These are going to stirr things up for sure. Why?

* The only true WRX look gauges with a font that was chosen for it's factory matched appearance. Pics don't lie. Look at the various other "WRX Look" gauges and look at the MadDad(TM) Clarity V2 Rx series and make up your own mind.

* Precision Stepper Motor driven needle movement. You'll only find precision stepper motors in gauges that cost north of $200 each usually in the $224-$285 range. MadDad(TM) Clarity V2 Rx gauges use super quiet CPU controlled stepper motors just like the most expensive JDM gauges and you will appreciate the quiet motor operation, but at a price range that brings this quality to the average enthusiast.

* Warning lamps - each gauge has a pre-set warning lamp set to good well known thresholds for the WRX and STi community:
EGT - warns above 1600 degrees
Oil Temp - warns above 250 degrees
Water Temp - warns above 205 degrees
Oil Press. - warns below 20 psi
Boost warns above 18 psi

* Power on needle sweep/self test - a little bit of bling with real usage
* Smooth consistant Green LED backlighting - Clarity V2 gauges have the best backlighting anywhere. The backlighting is smooth and consistant with no dead spots. I've seen many a gauge twice the money that do not have the quality of backlighting the new V2 series has.
* Contrast dimming at night - the backlighting "dims" when the headlgihts are turned on. The dimming is fixed but allows for less contrast at night.
* PSI and Fahrenheit measurements for easy at a glance reading
* Extended range Oil Pressure gauge and sending unit to 140 PSI
* Daisy-Chained wiring system for the easiest install anywhere. Wire power, ground and lighting requirements for a single gauge and other gauges daisy chain together for less wiring and less mess.
* High quality billet aluminum housings(vs lower cost abs plastic) and bezels act as heat sinks pulling heat away from the internal electronics.
* Gauranteed you'll feel like you got more than what you paid for or your money back - the same MadDad(TM) 2 week money back gaurantee applies.

These gauges will be in stock by Friday of this week and we will start shipping Friday or early next week. For a limited time you can get Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure(or Oil Temp or Water Temp) for just $359.95. You've read that correct. Do it now because we are only going to let the $359.95 price ride into the first week of June then you will pay $399.95 which is still the most killer deal on high quality stepper motor driven gauges anywhere, never mind ones that are catered so specifically for the Subaru world.

ORDER WITH THIS LINK

In this video clip you can see the power on sweep/self test, and catch glimpses of the warning lamps as the needles pass their warning thresholds.

MadDad(TM) Clarity V2 Rx Video Clip - Gauge Power On

Tomorrow I'll post pics of the wiring setup and close up of the gauges powered off as well and pics of boost and egt when they arrive later this week. Please note despite the appearance in the video clip these are not STi black-out style gauges. They are standard clearn lens gauges.

"Contrast dimming at night - the backlighting "dims" when the headlgihts are turned on" -- I don't think these are white during the day. They still look damn sweet though.

They are green all the time I believe. They are pretty nice. I had a chance to see some of the pre-production models at the Wicked Big Meet last week. Very good quality.

They do black out when the car is off, just like the original clarity gauges. I have a set of the original clarities and they are super clear even in direct light. However, I wish I waited for these, the dimming feature as well as warning lights are a very nice addition. And the daisy chain setup is perfect. Good job guys!

These do not black out -- according to Rich at Daddy's, the V2 Rx is green backlit to match the WRX and is not blackout. The V2 Ti is amber/red and is blackout to match the STi.

I'm actually a fan of the non-blackout. I have blackouts (prosports, not clarities) right now and they can be difficult to read during the day. Getting a set of the V2 Rx's as soon as Rich gets them in.

Gang,

I'll post some more pics later tonight. The Rx series was spec'd out by us to be white during the day(without the need of backlighting) and green at night when the lights are turned on. We had a sample made with that lighting and all looked good and we approved production. Somehow our specs and someone elses got crossed on the production line at the time of production and the result was green day or night, but with that the night time viewing has reduced contrast tied to your headlights being on/off. These are regular clear lens gauges and will have no more glare than any otheer clear lens gauge. If anyone should be upset it should be us since no has been charged for their gauges and I think we made some reasonable offers to folks that had an existing pre-order with the white/green expectation. However, my disappointment is subdued by the fact that everything else about the gauges are simply spot on to what we spec'd and honestly the end results are even better than I hoped for. From a quality standpoint the aluminum cases and bezels and extra quiet stepper motors offer a very upscale feel with the the upscale price. Gauges should be in the hands of the early adopters next week so it won't be too long before unbiased opinions are online. Check back later tonight for some extra pics.

Just to "clarity"(ok pun intended), the V2 Ti series are the ones that do the full blackout with the smoked lens and will be available around the end of June but will have the same stepper motor driven needle movement and warning lamps and updating lighting for much better daylight visability than the V1's, the V2 Rx series use clear lens. Over the next number of months you'll see a roll out of multiple colors for each series, including a blue since so many people have asked me about that in the past.

To answer some other questions. All gauges use 3 tick marks like the factory cluster except for boost which we felt would be better served by 4 tick marks between each major because this nets 1 psi per tick. Since boost is the most active gauge we thought that would be best. The existing V2 Rx Green gauges are green/green(day/night) with the night being lower contrast than the day. The font/face is the closest factory match anywhere/anybrand. We use one of our oversees manufacturing partners. We won't say who because that's like giving away intellectual property, but they build guages for a number of brand names, MadDad now one of them. I'm quite sure the first customs will attest to the build and finish quality. I mentioned in another forum this is the most excited I have been about a MadDad(TM) product introduction in quite some time. The gauges are that nice.

- Rich

Some updated pics....

Showing the gauge face power-off. They are not black-out despite how the video looked. The digits are semi-transparent white which happened due to the detail snafu during production, but you do end up with very nice green digits day or night.

A nice view of the Oil Pressure in low light with the backlighting in "dim" mode. This is what we mean when we claim "WRX Look" gauges. I honestly don't think there is anything from anyone else that is this spot on.

And finally. The wiring. You can see the gauge on the left side has a cable which has 4 wire leads(that you can't see) for regular power, ground, and two related to backlighting, then you can see how the included pass-thru cables let you daisy chain the power, ground, and lighting wiring requirements for crazy easy install. Just wire up the sending units to the middle terminal of each gauge. Gotta love it. No control modules or anything else to wire into.

They are definately more red than orange. Digital cameras are never spot on with their color hue/saturation. There is a hint or orange in them but again, more red than orange. Closer to what you see in the low light image. Also, when the power is off the needle doesn't get it's lighting so the color shows slightly different when the gauges are off. There is a two week money back gaurantee so anyone that doesn't think meet their requirements can send them back(even after installing) for a full refund less frieght(which is quite minimal)

Rich, those pictures cleared it up for me. Like you said it appeared they blacked out from the video and I was under the assumption they performed the same black out as the v1's. Either way, excellent products. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another set from you guys.

There will be a generous upgrade offer to V1 owners. We'll be sending out an email in a day or two with details.

I got a chance to check out one of the V2's at the WBM. Looked really nice, and Rich was very helpful in answering all my questions.

I liked them so much that I just ordered a 3 pack of the V2 Rx's

These are much nicer than what we had at WBM. Mostly because they are a finished product whereas what we had at WBM was a pre-production prototype to give folks an idea. Thanks for the order, we'll be shipping tomororw or Monday.
