Default so your friend needs help on his car

swapping an exhaust....simple enough right? sure! You tell him to call you before he he does anything because you've done plenty and can offer sage advice. When he disobeys your direct order and rounds off a downpipe bolt before you get there, which in turn becomes a 4.5 hour affair, what do you do?

there will be no poll, because how could I strangle creativity like that?

I say attack him with the sawzal he was attempting to use on his downpipe bolt...

Or maybe just pour a bag of sand down his oil fill while he's paying attention to something else.

It happens to everybody. Think about the first time you swapped out an exhaust and the shenanigans that ensued.

I never rounded off a bolt, but I've done the job with improper tools, which makes the task just as tedious. I was a n00b at the time, and an exhaust swap that took half a day my first try now will take 40 min - just because of having the right tools & the experience.

If he's done this before and he still rounded the bolt, then you can kick him in the balls.

Well, first, help him fix it, the damage is done.

But, if he is asking for your help, that means he doesnt have a clue how to do it, or the tricks of the trade.

I assume he:

-Didnt PB blast it.
-Hamfisted it
-wrenched on it while the exhaust was cold.

Which one?

Which one?
-his older brother hamfisted it.
-they used some sort of lubricant about 10 seconds before the hamfisting ensued.
-it was cold as hell

any last little bit of form/shape left in the bolt was promptly removed through the continued use of vice grips in an effort to free the nut. His older brother, although I realize his good intention, was really just making matters worse with the vice grips.

then i mention the sawzal blade to be used between the flanges, to cut the bolt, but they dont wanna damage the downpipe gasket? WTF? you should buy a new gasket anyway, they're crush gaskets! its 1:30 am and you dont want to try something that'll work because you wanna re-use your DP gasket? im outta here.

IMO, only solution was to pull the turbo and snake the DP and turbo outta there to hit the bolt w/ some form of cutting wheel, but he doesnt wanna
a. loose coolant
b. loose oil
c. buy a new up/turbo gasket

LOL They wanted to save a DP gasket? Of all of the gaskets, that's the one I'd be least likely to try to save.
