Default 30K Tune-Up Time~ $700 ?

I went into the dealer to schedule and appointment for my 30k tune-up and oil change. I was surprised to hear its gonna run about $700. I wasn't expecting it anywhere close to that. I'll pay what I have to to keep my baby happy but just want to make sure they're not raping me while they do it.

FYI it's and STi and they dont change the spark plugs until the 60K tune-up( Can't wait to see how much thats gonna be ><)

Thanks~

I paid 400 bones for my 30K. try calling another dealership? or find ways to cut down on the cost. I got to talk my dealerhip down a few bucks to make it worthwhile.

No just do it yourself, I found that some things aren't even need to be done that the dealership are charging (Turbo models don't need to change their spark plugs and fuel filter until 60k) Just find some people who are doing a shop day up there, and DIY, just remember to save the reciepts for when the time comes.

One thing u can do is to get the parts while they provide the labor. THat will significantly reduce the price. Also, make sure you know what they are doing. There are times that they will include silly maintenance stuff that is not even in your Subaru manual

I would find out exactly what they do and shop around. If you get it done elsewhere and kee the proof of what they did the dealer can't hassle you about future warranty work if that's a concern.

You need to find out exactly what they are doing and compare it to your manual. We only charge $359.95 for the 30K and the only thing we add (we are in FL) is the transmission service.

need to add in replacing coolant and brake fluid to the list (they are listed as a 30k item). Neither one is particularly expensive though.

The 60k service is supposed to be about $700. They may have misquoted you?

How'd you get a free 30k maintenance? Our free scheduled maintenance runs out at 24k I thought. Is this a dealer specific perk?

They have to have misquoted you.

All thats is supposed to be done per SOA:

Inspect :

Drive Belts
Camshaft Drive belt (I doubt they will inspect that even if they were supposed too)
Fuel System, lines and connections
Transmission/Front and Rear Diff fluid
Automatic Fluid (if applicable)
Brakes, Brake lining
Front and Rear Axle boots
Clutch Operation
Steering and Suspension
Check the brakes and parking brake

All that stuff you can do yourself for free, they are just going to glance at it all.

Replace:

Oil
Oil Filter
Coolant Flush (the only useful thing they will do, since there machines do a great job)
Air Cleaner
Brake Fluid (another useful thing for them to do, since it a little bit of a pain, but definately DIY job)
Rotate Tires

Your in VA. I'll tell you what. You drive to my house and I'll do it for 500 dollars. But your really gonna be breaking my balls on this one, I'm just doing it because you a member of this forum.

So needless to say if thats all they had planned on doing its definately not worth 700 bucks.

Now if they were going to change the plugs, wires, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, coolant, brake fluid, front and rear diff, transmission fluid, replace all the brake pads, air filter, drive belts, and timing belt. Then yeah it might not be too bad of a deal if you cant do that stuff yourself or have a place to do it. But I seriously doubt they are even going to do half of that.
